The Café BilderBuch is a Berliner institution located right in the center of the nice and fancy neighborhood Berlin-Schöneberg, one of Berlin’s most elegant neighborhoods also when it comes to well-restored old buildings built more than 100 years ago, during the times of the German Empire. And so is the Café BilderBuch, a posh and elegant coffee-house, full of vintage furniture, sterling and ceiling ceilings as well as a very nice rear part of the café, where it sports even book shelves. This contributes to the cosy bookstore café atmosphere of the Café BilderBuch. There is even a stage and live music in this rear part of the café, in which we experienced great German music performed by a local Berliner band. So the Café BilderBuch is also a good jump gate for local bands on their way to become famous.

And here at Café BilderBuch the food is great as well. You even can get breakfast until 23:00 (11 pm), yeah seriously and officially. Though I had my breakfast way earlier, meaning midday, I decided to have a special breakfast and therefore chose the “Tausend und eine Nacht” (The Arabian Nights), which is an oriental breakfast with olives, sheep cheese, various other sorts of cheese, cucumber, salad, and this special Turkish salami with garlic called Sucuk. I had it together with a cappuccino. Yummy! At another visit we had a tasty tuna baguette and a salmon baguette in the rear part of the Café BilderBuch, which is full of sofas and couch chairs and of course plenty of books in book shelves. Therefore this café is called also library in its subtitle. So all this together with the nice and friendly staff gives a very good atmosphere to get into your flow or mojo, you name it. So when you are in Berlin make sure you visit this jewel!

It is incredible how unfriendly staff can totally ruin what is supposed to be a pleasant experience in a cozy and nicely decorated place.

When the waitress brought our drinks, she also dropped a full glass of wine she was carrying in her tray on us. She seemed really clumsy so we guessed she was new. I wouldn't be really mad for that, since it could happen to anyone. However, she didn't even apologize which was unbelievable.

Her manager told her to clean everything and to bring new drinks for us but it was all full of small pieces of glass around and our clothes were stinking to wine.

Surprisingly, when we politely asked the manager if we had to pay for the two cups of coffee after all that hassle, she not only confirmed it (we were actually expecting that reply) but started to make jokes about us being wet, suggesting us to go home and change the clothes in a really bad manner that we even had a small argument.

Moreover, besides that, when we arrived, I sat down in a chair which was broken and I was about to fall down.

It was definitely not a good time what we had there and we'll never...

Café BilderBuch is a bit of hit or miss. They have some really good food but the service is sometimes a tad too slow. Maybe it is in the concept of slow food, which is not bad per se. Just don't make the same mistake I've done a couple tons by coming in already hungry. The käsespetzle is great! That being said, the service is friendly. Once I accidentally ordered a grog and they were willing the exchange it for something I actually wanted, which was not required because I got curious about the grog and ended up enjoying it a lot. They also have live music sometimes as far as I understand. They have been only taking cash for a while now, can't remember if I've ever paid with card...

The venue accepts cash only, even though their prices are relatively high for Berliner standards. Service wasn’t so great, as when one of us made some questions on the menu, the waitress was not very patient. And when we asked to split the bill, she said it was too late and that WE should have said it beforehand. The food tasted fine, I love that they give you some fruits on the side, but 9€ for bread, cheese and ham, I wouldn’t say it’s much fair. The venue is beautifully decorated, but sadly the smell of the kitchen got stuck on my clothe, even though we weren’t so close to the kitchen.
