Heinrich-von-Kleist Park — Attraction in Berlin

This is one of my favorite parks in Berlin. Here one can find very interesting and heterogeneous architectural elements. The pair of colonnades at the Potsdamerstr. entrance was used to be the pathway to the Schloss in Mitte. They were later reconstructed in this park. The two impressive statues in front of the courthouse are also moved from the Schloss. I wish the colonnades were better taken care of. While their structure is so well preserved, they look rather dirty and abandoned to their fate, which seems to be accommodating homeless people. It is a shame that Berlin still cannot provide decent housing for homeless people.

Also die Geschichte ist diese: Im letzten Drittel des 17. Jahrhunderts wurde auf Geheiß des Großen Kurfürsten Friedrich Wilhelm von Brandenburg ein Hof- und Küchengarten angelegt, der ab dem Jahr 1718 die Bezeichnung „Botanischer Garten“ erhielt. Ein Botanischer Garten in unserem heutigen Verständnis entstand hier erst ab 1801 auf einer Fläche von 7,5 Hektar. Die Institution wurde um die Wende zum 20. Jahrhunderts nach Dahlem verlegt. Der Park wurde zur öffentlichen Anlage umgebaut und 1911 zum 100. Todestag Heinrich von Kleists umbenannt. Das Kammergerichtsgebäude und die Königskolonnaden sind in den Jahren 1909-13 entstanden. Das Kammergerichtsgebäude ist heute vor allem durch seine Nutzungsgeschichte bekannt: Zur Nazizeit war hier der Volksgerichtshof untergebracht und es wurden die Schauprozesse gegen die Widerstandskämpfer des 20.
