Choice Restaurant Schöneberg — Restaurant in Berlin

The service was good, but the food was disappointingly ordinary. What made me want to visit the place was the promise of 'the essence of Vietnamese kitchen culture' proclaimed proudly on their website—this is misleading.

We ordered summer and spring rolls as starters, which were nothing special. The main beef dish was served on a rectangular platter and had a small portion of rice and strips of beef and a generic 'yellow curry' sauce splashed over the top and lots of shredded iceberg lettuce (which seems to be used in copious amounts with most dishes)—underwhelming at best.

The problem with this restaurant (which seems to be a trend with many other restaurants of this ilk in Berlin) is the misrepresentation of their unimaginative, workaday food as something special: 'delicacies prepared according to old family recipes' and then charging a premium for it. Won't be...

Good value of money.

I have passed by choice many times. Finally we tried it today. Overall, it’s good value of money. Portion is big and price is good. I ordered pho bo ( beef pho). When the food was served, I tried the soup and it wasn’t salty so I thought it’s good. However, it became more and more salty by the time. So I will recommend you to stir the soup when it’s served then maybe the flavor of soup would be more even. That’s my guess. I was going to order a salad but the waitress advised me not to do it because pho itself is enough and she was right. So the advices would be helpful. But the service attitude could be improving. Leider eine Enttäuschung. Wollten uns zu dritt in den Außenbereich des Restaurants setzen. Zwei von uns hatten einen Döner aus einem anderen Restaurant dabei, eine Person hat etwas im Choice bestellt. Aufgrund der Döner wurden wir sehr unfreundlich darauf hingewiesen, dass wir hier nicht essen dürfen. Was abgesehen vom Tonfall auch noch völlig verständlich ist, wobei der Laden außer uns nicht besucht war und der Betreiber sich keine Sorgen um Platz für potentielle Kunden machen musste. Daraufhin haben wir die dort bestellt Suppe zum Mitnehmen umbestellt, was einen weitern mürischen Kommentar zur Folge hatte. Als wir die Suppe dann endlich hatten sind wir weiter, um uns einen Platz zum hinsetzen zu suchen. Dort angelangt wollten wir die Suppe genießen, mussten aber feststellen, dass uns kein Besteck mitgegeben wurde. Also sind wir zurück gelaufen um nach to-go Besteck zu fragen. Leider wurden wir wieder sehr unhöflich bedient und uns konnte kein Besteck zum Suppe essen, lediglich stäbchen gegeben werden. Zum krönenden Abschluss hat die 10€ teure Suppe, die nicht wirklich groß war auch noch nicht wirklich nach 10€ geschmekt, sondern eher nach einer Asia-Tütensuppe vom Supermarkt des Vertrauens.

Wirklich wirklich schade für uns und nicht nur eine unverschämtheit für diesen Preis, sondern auch eine Beleidigung für die Asiatische Küche! Absolut nicht...
