Club del Burro — Restaurant in Berlin

I'm from California. I grew up on Mexican food. I lived for a year in Mexico. I've eaten in big cities and small villages. Some was outstanding and some was just OK but I've never walked out of a Mexican restaurant thinking "My god! That was terrible" UNTIL moving to Berlin. And literally every place selling Mexican food in this city is absolutely terrible. The people who own Berlin's Mexican restaurants should all be ashamed. EXCEPT this place. Its actually really quite good. At least the tacos are. Quality corn tortillas packed with real pieces of quality meat that is well seasoned. And quite reasonably priced considering how big they are. I haven't tried the burritos because they really just don't look like burritos to me. They prepare them in this strange German way of filling the tortilla with stuffing before putting it on the grill, rather than throwing the tortilla and meat side by side to heat up and cook. But hey at least this place has a grill. I've seen places in Berlin putting burritos into a panini press! Lol. Anyway if you are fresh off the plane from California and are going back next week I'd say skip this place because it won't impress you. If you've been exiled to Berlin for months or years and are super depressed about the Mexican food situation this place is going to cheer you right up. I've eaten here 4 times since discoveing it...

For all those in the Schillerkiez who are tired of pizza and burgers and want a quick and fresh meal that's hearty and full of crispy veggies and bold flavors you need to come here. Although the menu consists of various burritos, bowls, and quesadillas, it is not Mexican fare, and the couple running the place don't want it to be. They've got their own thing going on and it is wildly delicious. Spinach and blue cheese burritos, beef brisket quesadillas, pastrami bowls, the menu is certainly confusing if you're looking for something you recognize. All I can say is if you're brave enough to give them a chance you will not be disappointed. Every bowl I have tried has been packed with flavor and generosity. Oh. And vegetarians and vegans. You can eat all the things. They've got substitutes that deserve better than that word, maybe superstitutes. And look out...

The first time I went there in person summer 2021, the tacos were extremely delicious, all the ingredients were fresh and tasty. We were mindblown. But since then, I've only had bad experiences both in person and especially in delivery. The food has been the opposite of fresh: old, tasteless, crusty and mushy from what I assume to be microwaving, and the meats have been exceptionally disgusting. Today the barbacoa tasted like dog food. Couldn't finish two bites of my taco. I'm super grossed out and done giving this place second chances. I also want my money back.

In summary: This place has great potential and when you're lucky enough to catch them on a day they actually serve you fresh food, it's amazing. But most of the time, they just serve tasteless to literally inedible...
