From the outside Coffee Star looks like your typical Wedding Späti Café. Old men sipping coffee, smoking strong tobacco, in earnest discussions in their own languages.

This changes completely once you step inside. And even more so, once you taste the coffee.

The owner is friendly and passionate about coffee from her homeland. She will strike up a friendly conversation with her guests, and within minutes you find yourself talking to the locals.

At one point, a woman pulled out her phone to show us an Ethiopian coffee ceremony and invited me to join one on the weekend.

Simply the best coffee, and most expertly made cappucinos, I've had in Berlin! It's also a great and unpretentious place in general, which could be easily overlooked due to the numerous coffee and bakery spots on Müllerstrasse. But don't be fooled! This is a gem. It's the real deal. The coffee is roasted in house, in small batches. The barristas are expert and there's a reason that it's always crowded. My favourite roastery in Berlin. Whether buying beans or a cup of coffee, just so so so consistently good. Even the baked goods are delicious! And the prices are really good too! The baristas are also just lovely and talking to them makes my day. It’s a little oasis in the middle of Müllerstraße where everything feels okay.
