I don't doubt that this is the best Thai restaurant in Berlin. After all, it's across the street from the Thai embassy (as they say). But it often seems as though you have to be the Ambassador himself to get served here. Dokmai Thai has broken our hearts. We arrived excited to have good Thai food. We are observed by the waiter as we wait politely, casting a glance at the free table. After several minutes of rambling conversation with other diners, he comes to pass by us, and stops momentarily as we ask whether we can be seated. He casually answers no, they will not seat any more guests tonight. He is not overly concerned that their posted hours indicate they are still open, or that other diners are still enjoying their dinners, but instead just no we are not cooking any more tonight, goodnight. Meine Frau und ich waren vorgestern zum ersten und letzten Mal hier.

Zuerst ist mir der wirklich dreckige Tisch aufgefallen, Ich musste die Essensreste vom Vortag mit dem Bierdeckel vom Tisch kratzen. Aber das spielt nur eine Nebenrolle.

Der Laden war Anfangs (wir kamen um 12:00) noch leer.

Und die kleine Tom Yam Gung war auch schnell da. Allerdings wurde diese ohne Reis serviert. Das kenne ich so nicht.

Wir mussten noch 45 Minuten auf den Rest des Essens warten und auf Nachfrage wurde uns gesagt, wir hätten Bescheid geben sollten, sobald wir mit der Suppe fertig sind.

Die Bedienung hat sich nicht wirklich dafür interessiert, ob wir mit der "Vorspeise" schon fertig waren oder nicht. Eine Vorspeise war das also?!

Ob das Essen authentisch ist, möchte ich nicht beurteilen.

Allerdings hatte das Grapaow Gai auf der Mittags-/Tageskarte nichts mit dem Grapaow zu tun, das ich aus 7 Jahren Leben/Arbeiten in Thailand kenne.

Ein Blatt frittierter Basilikum - das wars. Der Rest waren Zwiebeln und Paprika.

Es sah mehr aus wie aus einem der China/Thai/Vietnam Bistro, die man aus S-Bahnhöfen kennt, die auch noch Sushi machen, und es hat auch so geschmeckt. Wenigstens war es etwas scharf.

Das Panang Curry mit Tofu meiner Frau war eine Frechheit. Fad und der Tofu war ohne Geschmack.

Um ehrlich zu sein, hatten wir große Erwartungen, da sich das Restaurant in direkter Nähre zu Thai-Botschaft befindet. Diese Erwartungen wurden in jeder Hinsicht enttäuscht.
