I have, or someone else in my family has, been going to Godshot since the beginnings of my childhood. I think I first fell truly in love with the place when I saw the owner with a Framework laptop.
This place made me love coffee: my first cappuccino; my first "Gibraltar," when I started disliking milk in my coffee; my first espresso macchiato; and then finally my first espresso. Also many, many hot chocolates, which are superb here.
Over time, of course, my interest and taste for coffee, or rather espresso, has changed drastically. I've gone from a teenager who enjoys mellifluous dark roasts with milk to counter the bitterness — frankly, I couldn't taste much back then; I distinctly remember highly prioritizing texture — to an adult who has completed rudimentary barista training (not that I'm any good at it or that I plan on doing it professionally) and adores silky, complex light roasts. Somehow — somehow! — Godshot has kept up with this change in taste. It feels miraculous.
From then initially carrying Manaresi dark roast beans with phenomenal texture, to them carrying their own beans, to them ultimately carrying fancy natural Ethiopian light roasts (as well as alternatives, of course).
In short, of the many, many times I've been there, I have maybe had a bad espresso once. That is remarkable.
Today, I came here for the first time in a while, maybe a year. I am very impressed.
Lovely atmospheric music fills the space from warm, vintage speakers (which, to my great audiophile frustration, I can't identify); comfortable leather chairs and sofas are freely available; etc. — in short: the atmosphere is fantastic, perfect for reading Walter Tavis’s The Man Who Fell to Earth (which is what I'll be doing for the next 45 minutes).
That — paired with the wonderful, wonderful, albeit somewhat conservative, espresso (light roast special, the aforementioned Ethiopian roast) — not only brings back many nostalgic childhood memories, but also offers an environment and experience that is nothing but enjoyable.
I can highly...
Read moreI took 3 takeaway coffees this morning from the young, male barista with the glasses(I’m not sure if he’s new) and all were over-extracted and there were not even lids for the coffees or a tray. I live next door and have come in a bunch of times and the coffee has usually been good. I also should say that the service is cold unless the Irish/Scottish guy is working. There’s much better coffee at Town Mouse cafe on the street parallel. For the prices being charged here they need to serve impeccable and consistent coffee. I usually don’t bother to leave negative reviews but it was very...
