Based on the high rating, I was really looking forward to some great pizza for dinner. I walked into the restaurant on a very chilly night. Right away, I noticed how cold it was. I looked around and there was another table seated and the couple had their jackets on. For some reason, the heat wasn't turned on in the restaurant (maybe they though the wood burning over was enough to heat the entire place?). Regardless, I had to keep my jacket on for the entire dinner. Beyond that, the ambiance was severely lacking. The lighting was harsh and cold, and overall the place had a really cheap feel to it. I thought to myself, considering how bad the ambiance is and how great all the reviews are, the pizza is going to be amazing!
I ordered the pizza with artichoke hearts, olives and basil. Shortly thereafter, it arrived. It didn't look great - the outer crust was fairly burnt all over, the toppings did not look particularly fresh, there were 2 basil leaves in the middle - but I still had my hopes. Took my first bite and confirmed that the outer crust was too burnt to eat (unless you like the taste of burnt food). As I worked my way to the centre of the pizza, I soon realized the olives had still had pits inside. Kind of strange for olives on top of a pizza (since you can't really eat a bite of olive and pizza when there's a pit inside). The olives and artichokes looked and tasted like they came straight out of a can. The pizza dough was burnt on the outer crust and was rubbery in the middle. I couldn't even finish my pizza.
I was told that this place is a collective. I can't help but think all members had their friends or family post such glowing reviews, because the place I ate at was definitely not a 4/5 star restaurant. 1 star may seem a bit harsh, but I can't find a single thing I enjoyed about this place.
Would definitely not recommend, especially with so much other good vegan food in the...
Read moreLa Stella Nera WAS one of my special places in Berlin: vegan, authentic pizza, a collective and so on. Until this Friday, 16th. I made a reservation for a table at 7:30pm for a date with my girlfriend because 2 years ago (in a world where Pandemic was still a thing and slowly we could go out to eat again) was the place I chose for our first date. So I thought this is going to be cute and great pizza. I am still shocked by the way we were treated by "the supposed host/ front of house service". It was rainy, he didn't even looked in our faces and said your table is the last one outside: the only table outside that was raining on was the one reserved for us. I asked if we could sit inside, we were ignored and dismissed. I don't expect special treatment, I expect the basics. Everyone deserve to be treated with respect. A good service would try to accommodate us, ask us to wait a bit, maybe give us an ETA of when another table would be free... anything. Here is the thing, back in the days I would go to NK just to have this pizza... but now there are so many other delicious VEGAN options, it's absolutely...
Read moreI came this place every time when I visited Berlin before I moved here. My favorite vegan pizzeria in Berlin! I mean if you want real Napolitan styled wood fired pizza and vegan, this is the place! People want crunch base, no burning edges, packed toppings (or in short those don't know what a good pizza is) please find your way to domino's 😂. I love the dough - thin and soft in the middle and fluffy of the crust; love the cheese - giving me the oily cheesy feeling and taste; I also love the price - low for such great food, organic ingredients and friendly service. I can't think what else I want from a restaurant. I ordered cap (with spelt und almond milk) the froth doesn't look good, well.... Spelt and almond both are very difficult to make a good froth, bcz there's not enough protein. So I won't cut a star for this reason. Spelt and soy milk can be a good combination tho, it gives enough protein for a proper froth and slight sweetness to replace cow milk. Dessert we ordered apple crumble as pictured, no regret! I like it...
