MEAN AND SCAMMY:
I last visited here before the pandemic and was impressed.
However, I just left on the 26th of September, election day in Germany, very disappointed with my experience there.
I strongly suspect the staff there are both messing with customers at random, and skimming money from the till. Here's how it works:
I queued up and ordered a smoothy, vitamin C Kick, to go so I could enjoy the sunshine after voting.
The girl took the order and immediately popped the cash box open without asking how I wanted to pay.
Before I could say a word she said"no credit cards, no credit cards".
I told her I didn't have a credit card, just an EC card which they do accept.
This really annoyed her, but she gave me the card reader to pay with my card.
While the payment was clearing, I noticed, she didn't cancel the cash payment or ring up a new sale from the card.
Also she didn't print out a receipt.
She said I can wait at the To Go window, which is outside on the street, for the smoothy.
At the To Go window, various people after me in the queue all got their orders before me and left.
I thought I was getting "special treatment" due to not paying cash.
Eventually, I went back inside to the smoothy counter, which is further down from the Kasse, to see what was happening, when the picture became a bit clearer.
I could see the person at the juice counter had several dockets to make "Saft" (juice) lined up.
None of them was for a smoothy or a "vitamin c kick" smoothy.
Now I could see that this wasn't entirely a case of the girl being annoyed by me, but a part of a simple scam she was running.
But I had no more time to play my roll in it, so I went back to the girl at the Kasse and asked for my money back.
And here is where it gets interesting :
The girl on the Kasse rung up another "no sale" and took 5 euro out to give me. (she had decided to keep the 50cent as a tip).
She didn't reverse the sale back to my card.
"Next time bring cash" was her final word, no apology for the delay or mixup.
She didn't call out to the juice counter to cancel the smoothy.
Game Over.
So here is how it works:
When a customer wants a smoothy To Go, she does a "no sale" to open the till and takes the cash for the smoothy.
The customer waits outside, until she gets a chance to go to the juice station herself to make the drink. (the actual person on the station is not involved).
It probably takes a while to get the opportunity to do this which is the reason for the Long Stand.
But she gets it eventually and passes it out the window to the tired but grateful customer.
This leaves the Kasse with 5,50 extra in it which the girl can later slide into the tip jar, or her own pocket.
I'm sure there is a more innocent explanation for all of this, and I am simply not being patient enough for my drink. Twenty minutes should be a reasonable wait to make a smoothy, right?
But if the person who counts the money at Nah am Wasser is reading this, they can check the amount of vitamin c kick smoothies sold on the 26th of september(election day) and compare it with the amount of refunds made, EC card sales, and "no sale" openings of the kasse.
I hope to god I am wrong, and they all add up correctly.
In the meantime, while I was waiting so long for the smoothy that never came, I took these pictures of broken glass in front of the door that people with dogs and children had to walk all over for the whole time I was there. Staff members also passed over the shards several times without picking it up.
To sum up: It's a popular spot, but way too chaotic to be...
