Seriously mediocre. Food was okay, nothing special. We ordered the aubergine (no salt, very mediocre sad taste), octopus (bit muddy, no crisp on the outside, came with so much aioli it was swimming in it, seriously why??), the best meal was the deep fried halloumi sticks accompanies by fried veggie sticks, papaya salad was also just fine. Drinks were better but again, I would not travel to Karl-Marx straĂe just for a drink here.
I would not recommend this restaurant to locals or tourists. Not only for its mediocre cuisine but also for its service. The whole serving crew has the Berghain flair. I give you that if it's the "a la Berghain" feel you are going here for but they are not specially nice to you as a customer. It's a special attitude, which i don't particularly support when I'm paying for a service to someone. We were asked if we had reservation 3x, I guess we didn't look the part? :D After ordering, we were not attended to anymore although we considered to have another drink, since we were already there and it was already 10pm on a Friday (it's a mission impossible to get to any good bar at that hour in Berlin..) We left, giving a 5 EUR tip because of the way their card machines work - not deserved. I feel a bit cheated on this part, as it forces you to pick a percentage of the total to tip (hate that American system, don't make that mistake)
We paid about 30 EUR per person (including tip) order 4 dishes, 2 drinks and 1 non alcoholic cocktail. It was not a horrendous price that's what saved the evening and this place but I'm not coming back.
Also, watch out for the toilet doors,...
Read moreWow, I was really blown away. Iâve passed by Paolo Pinkel for a couple years, but when it was my friends birthday this week I was excited they suggested to go to Paulo Pinkel. It said they were fully booked online but we got on the waiting list, and luckily things changed and we were able to get in.
I loved the options to choose from, and the food was delicious. The Cyprian restaurant read my mind by having an appetizer that included sourdough bread with tomatoes and olives and capers and crumbled cheese on top, wow. If you are my friend you know Iâd love thatâŠ.
The ambiance was really nice, there is this squishy foam under the tables that I kept rubbing my knees against and touching, was a really good touch. The lights that feature pink lights and plants were very funny and surreal, and I thought it was funny that our table number was eleven but included a zero in it before the ones (011). Are the pink lights why itâs called Paolo Pinkel? Please respond, jk but would be cool if u did
My friend had the feeling they saw our waiters at a queer party, or at least had the vibe that maybe they would be? Cool.
My friend and I got the same entree, bibimbop, and I will admit my friend thought the employee at that kitchen was cute. But thatâs not why they chose that kitchen!
The clientele werenât annoying but not exactly our vibes,...
Read moreVery nice atmosphere here. We showed up without a reservation but they quickly whipped up a few chairs and gave us a nice separate area to sit. As you may have read in the description: this place is three kitchens combined. Every menu has some tapas-options, main dishes and desserts. I suggest starting with a selection of tapas from all around the menu. As there are three kitchens, food arrives pretty quickly and in several stages. A feast; so to speak. Drinks are ordered separately, so expect some off-synchronised service. This shouldnât be a problem though, just enjoy it as it arrives. The cocktails are not groundbreaking but nice nevertheless! A small drawback I experienced was the fact the empty plates didnât get picked up by servers from different kitchens (or this is my assumption, anyway). We had small tables so this was a bit clumsy but didnât ruin the experience really, so 5 stars either way. Later the same night we returned to this venue when the restaurants were closed and enjoyed a few more beers and drinks. Itâs a very pleasant take on âfood marketsâ but in a more service-oriented...
