The food was okay, what you would expect out of a katsu.
I went alone on a Saturday, it was just me waiting and full tables, the lady suggested I ordered while I waited a few minutes. While I was waiting 2 white girls came in then a white couple, so now we were all waiting. Then a table cleared up so she asked the 2 girls to sit down, then the window table cleared so she decided to move the 2 girls there, then sit the other couple on their table, all the while i'm waiting and being asked to "wait just a minute".
Finally they sat me on a table next to the coat hanger in some corner in the inner room with families and children, obviously the hottest, noisiest, least pleasant corner.
I then asked directly for clarification and if this was because i'm not white, to their advantage they were very apologetic, apologized multiple times and offered a free drink (which I naturally refused).
While they did apologize, the experience left a very bitter after taste because it's clear to me I was singled out and unfavoured possibly for my ethnicity or appearance.
I am hopeful that me pointing it out will lead to this not happening to other visitors.
Edit: want to note that like other reviews, i also ordered the katsu with rice and ended up getting the one with salad as an unsolicited...
Read moreThis restaurant reminds me of the small family run izakayas you’ll find in Osaka. They have a huge menu which some people might not like but they do share the same set of ingredients & is basically how family izakayas are in Japan. Their dishes are simple & homey & prepared by a very nice Japanese gentleman who stays hidden behind a small door at the back of the restaurant. Their prices are surprisingly very affordable even for their unagi & other fish dishes. Their drink selection is a bit limited but you go here for homey food & teishoku. It’s the place you go to when your companions can’t decide on where to eat. Their karaage & chicken teriyaki are...
Read moreI don't understand where all the positive reviews come from.
Firstly, we were overcharged by getting the full meal Tonkatsu combo rather than the one without the side salad.
Secondly, the waitress just kept the change and never gave it back.
Thirdly, the rice was completely overcooked with no salt whatsoever, the gravy was more or less an undesirable salty goo and the Tonkatsu was no Tonkatsu but rather an unsalted chicken schnitzel in german breadcrumbs.
Who thinks the food here is great will think that prison food is prepared by a...
