Spontan Coffee — Restaurant in Berlin

As a newcomer tourist to Berlin, not knowing German well or how to talk to Germans, these people here have been great. Period. Especially the owner. He can have a chat if he’s got time and everyone speaks English here in lieu of any bad German.

Otherwise, there’s a great vibe at this cafe, good music, not way too loud and obnoxious, more classic American stuff. The coffee is tasty, fast, and they accept contactless! Huzzah! They also do bagels sometimes which are tasty, they serve different cakes and breads, and also croissants. They also have milk choices, such as cow, plant, and oat.

There are outlets for charging, a handful, not lots, though this is the case at most cafes in Berlin, and the toilet is good.

Only complaint is they have a bunch of plants inside that attracts bees and I had to smack some away at points while writing on my tablet. The bees probably come and go with the seasons.

Best in the area by a country mile! Honestly there are now two or three really excellent cafes in the west of berlin but it is still a shock to find a place like spantan which is up there with the best. The fjord espresso is in my view the star here with the barn lagging with a more earthy and dare i say perhaps suffering from the mandatory double shot policy? I will without question be back each time i am in the area. Be aware that they do not open on sunday (a curious decision in a country that has coffee and cake as a sunday tradition) and that they both open latish and close early so it strictly for days off, long lunchbreaks...

Die Gegend um Gotzkowskystraße und Beusselstraße ist nicht gerade das, was man gemeinhin als "schick" oder "hip" bezeichnen würde. Den Inder gibts seit mindestens 30 Jahren völlig unverändert, ebenso das Steakhaus mit Pizza. Ansonsten wird die Ecke durch Handyshops, Shisha-Bars und ethnische Läden von Hochzeit bis Gebäck geprägt. Um die Ecke gibt es die größte Ansammlung arabischer Restaurants außerhalb Neukölln. Die, die es gut meinen, sagen. die Gegend ist "aufstrebend", man muss nur noch Geduld haben. Andere Teile von Moabit sind tja auch cool geworden. Da fällt "Spontan" aus dem Rahmen. Das Café (vegane Kuchen, selbstgerösteter Kaffee) ist komplett "instagrammable". Durchgestylte Blumenkästen auf Hairpin-Gestellen mit Studi-Klassikern wie Yukka und Aralie zum funkelnagelneuen Second-Hand Teppich und irgendwie total authentischen Holztischen. Also etwa so, wie man sich die Bude der coolsten Kommilitonen vorstellt. Man kommt rein und weiß: die haben die volle Punktzahl in den sozialen Medien. Das Publikum passt dazu. Unglaublich schöne Menschen aus allen Herren Länder, manche mit Laptop. Irgendwo zwischen 4. Semester Humboldt-Uni Gender Studies und Fintech-Startup. Definitiv mehr Friedrichshain als Moabit-West. Aber alles gut gemacht. 5 Sterne für die, die das so mögen. Und der Kaffee? Vielleicht hatte ich Pech, aber mein Iced Cappuccino war so "OK". Sicher für 3,50 (handwarmes Leitungswasser kostenlos dazu) nicht der Beste...
