I went here as a recommendation from a local. I felt that the food was decent for Chinese style hand pulled noodles. The options for the main dishes were that it either came with some soup or just sauce. I usually eat a lot of Asian food, and I was not really impressed and would compare it to a fast food type style of restaurant as food comes fast and it’s only walk in guests and no reservations. I ordered the beef soup and the flavour with mild spice was good and meat was very tender, and cucumber salad was good some spice as well but just a bit oily. On their menu they had just launched a kimchi salad which I also tried but was very disappointed so don’t order that! They used too much ginger, and it didn’t really taste like what I had expected for kimchi and a bitter after taste. I asked the server for replacement of something else and he did not offer it to me and said that’s the taste even though he never tried it. He said nothing else and walk away from my table. I am not sure if thats customary for restaurant service here as I am a tourist. Where I am from if you let the restaurant know about an issue with your meal they will try to accommodate you. It does seem like a nice new place but the food was okay. For the amount I paid and food I received I think I would have preferred to go to a market or food hall for food...
Read moreI recently visited Wen Cheng in Kreuzberg after having a good experience at their Prenzlauer Berg location. Sadly, this visit was a complete disappointment.
I ordered the hand-pressed noodles with lamb, while my partner had the tofu and shiitake version. Within 24 hours, we both experienced severe stomach aches. The lamb was of poor quality, and the overwhelming amount of oil made the dish extremely heavy and hard to digest. The tofu, instead of being a light and flavorful addition, was more like an oil sponge.
For what essentially feels like overpriced hipster fast food, the quality was shockingly low. We both regret dining here and won’t be returning. It’s a shame, as the restaurant itself is cozy and the staff is friendly. However, it feels like they’re prioritizing trendy décor and advertising over delivering quality food.
Given my past positive experience in Prenzlauer Berg, I had higher expectations, but this location truly let me down. I hope they improve their food quality because, as it stands, it’s not...
Read moreWen Cheng used to be my go-to, but the quality has steadily declined, since the opening of Wen Cheng 3.
Wen Cheng 4 now feels like a hollow echo of the original. When I ordered my biang biang noodles I barely recognized the dish I once loved so much.
The spice and flavor level became a total letdown in 2024 and are unfortunately now a far cry from what I would call authentic Chinese Cuisine. The meat in the biang biang noodles unfortunately also has changed, and not for the better.
Shocked by the lack of flavor I even asked the waiter if the dish was really ‘Asian spicy,’ He confirmed with the kitchen and I handed a tray of chili oil as a response, which had zero spice and tasted even more bland than the noodles.
It’s disheartening to see a once-great spot...
