Zum Hax'nwirt — Restaurant in Berlin

For some reason, it was really hard to find a great restaurant with traditional German food. We asked a German in Berlin where we could find a good restaurant with German food and she said, "Bayern." She was WRONG! This place is AMAZING. The knoedel where huge and delicious. The rotkohl, roladen, everything was ausgezeichnet. We visit the Haxnwirt at least twice a year with a big group of people to have some comfort food. Of course, don't expect a vegetarian menu when you go there :-) The Haxn (roasted pork leg) and meat dishes taste just like they should, portions are big. When you pre-order a Haxn, size M is plenty enough. If you still have room for dessert, share a Kaiserschmarrn or apple rings! The atmosphere is cozy and the "not so Bavarian" staff...

Ich bin kürzlich daran vorbeigefahren und als Freunde bayerischer Küche entschieden wir uns, dem Hax‘nwirt eine Chance zu geben. Die Speisekarte auf der Webseite war schon mal vielversprechend, aber was heißt das schon. Wir waren zu viert, eine waschechte Süddeutsche war dabei. Oft ist es so, dass Bayerische oder österreichische Küche außerhalb der Region eher durchwachsen ist. Es gibt Ausnahmen, diese sind allerdings rar. Was soll ich sagen? Schon als wir die Gaststätte betraten, umwehte uns ein köstlicher Duft. Unsere zugegebenermaßen geringen Erwartungen bekamen neuen Auftrieb. Wir bestellten vier unterschiedliche Gerichte - keines davon zeigte auch nur eine Spur von Enttäuschung! Das Essen ist großartig und außergewöhnlich schmackhaft. Die Portionen sind fast schon unverschämt riesig und das zu verhältnismäßig zivilen Preisen. Schweinebraten, Schäuferl, der „Wies‘nteller“… kaum ein Gericht über 20€. Das Ambiente ist urbayerisch, inklusive Portrait Ludwig II., ohne „gezwungen“ zu wirken. Das Personal ist freundlich und sehr nett. Kurzum: der Wohlfühlfaktor ist hoch.
