"Zum Weinkeller" — Restaurant in Bingen am Rhein

It's a great location but the food was just ok and the service was not great. We ordered drinks, a meal for the kids, an appetizer and asked for a couple minutes for our group to look at the menu before ordering entrees. 20ish min later the owner/manager came over asking why we hadn't ordered and that there's only so much time between table turnover so we needed to order - literally no one had come back by to take our orders and we were hungry! We expressed that we had been waiting to give our orders and then someone finally came over to take the rest of our order. Excellent food and convenient location.

Steps away from the river Rhine, this place tucks away from the road with casual greenery and rustic tents. Food is great! The pork schnitzel roll, house special, is tender. Jazzed with the red (maybe paprika based) sauce, the pork schnitzel roll tastes much juicier than just the simple schnitzel. For beef special, I can’t think of anything better than this simple beef plate - lightly cured beef boiled to tender. It’s flavorful all by itself but paired with the dill sauce.. the fatty mouth feel rounds out the dish rich but not greasy nor heavy. The pan fried potatoes come with the beef are lightly seasoned, cooked to tender yet with a bite - perfect...

I really enjoyed this restaurant right up until the end. We had a nice experience, the service was great, and the food was tasty. We paid with a card and then I left a very nice tip on the table. As we were saying goodbye I was confronted about the servers not getting a tip on the card??? They had not even looked at the table to see the cash tip. I found this to be pretty disappointing since we did have a nice experience up to that point. Especially, since I had left a well above average tip on the table that any other restaurant would have been more than happy with. I would have definitely gone back to this restaurant if it had not been for the tipping demand as we prepared to leave...
