Wok‘ n Roll — Restaurant in Bochum

My expectations were low, given how pan-Asian the dishes are. It’s like a restaurant boasting Italian, Spanish and Greek cuisines. How authentic can anything be?

I was pleasantly surprised. Our table of five ordered mostly Vietnamese, with one platter of sushi. While everything is a localized/adapted version, everyone was happy with the food. What more can one ask of a restaurant.

The presentation is mindful and the portions are generous.

Interior design: The tables are tightly packed and partitioned off (just a feature, not necessarily a bug). Dim light and touches of nature in the form of tree barks and plants create a relaxing vibe.

Update: Leider musste ich bei meinem letzten Besuch feststellen, dass sowohl das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis als auch der Service etwas nachgelassen haben. Da ich vorbestellt hatte, orientierte ich mich an den Preisen, die online unter dem Menü zu finden waren. Dort war mein Gericht mit 12,95€ angegeben, berechnet wurden mir jedoch 16,95€.

Das Essen war geschmacklich in Ordnung, wenn auch nicht ganz so überzeugend wie in meiner Erinnerung. Für vietnamesische Frühlingsrollen und einfache Nudeln mit Gartensalat fast 17€ zu zahlen, empfinde ich im Vergleich als sehr hoch.

Auch im Service gab es kleinere Unstimmigkeiten. Mein Teller wurde beispielsweise abgeräumt, obwohl ich noch nicht ganz fertig war. Ich verstehe, dass es stressige Tage geben kann und gönne dem Team selbstverständlich den wohlverdienten Feierabend. Dennoch wünscht man sich als Gast gerade nach einem langen Arbeitstag ein wenig mehr Ruhe und Aufmerksamkeit.

Ich hoffe, mein Feedback wird als konstruktiv verstanden. Ich komme grundsätzlich gern wieder und würde mich freuen, wenn sich wieder mehr an der gewohnten Qualität orientiert wird.

I almost didn't try this restaurant at first. It offers Vietnamese, Thai and Japanese food and I always thought that no-one can make good food from such a diverse range.
