Markusschänke — Restaurant in Bonn

This was by far the worst restaurant experience in my life, anywhere in the world I've been! First, we booked the restaurant on Google maps for a group of people. When we arrived there (10 min before the booking time), they told us that there is no space because someone else just took a big table, and they don't really honour the Google bookings. We were about to leave to try a Vietnamese restaurant nearby, when they told us to stay after all, saying there is a table available for us, but it is in a bowling alley. The table was just a regular table in a regular, albeit long, room. It was incredibly hot in that room though. We were waiting for an hour to even get the menu, and another half an hour to place the order, which was only possible after physically stopping the waitress to serve us. Initially I felt sorry for her for having to serve an entire room by herself, but later her obnoxious behaviour relieved me from any pity towards her. She told us that if we order anything else than sausage, we will have to wait up to an hour, so we ordered sausage, which was promised to be delivered in 30-40 min. After an hour of waiting, we inquired, then they said 10 min, and then again. Only when we threatened to leave (almost 3 hours after arriving there), they served us. One of the dishes had a tetrapack corner cut mixed with the potatoes! They exchanged it (it took only 3 min now!), and they offered us complementary 0.2l beer per person. This was a nie gesture, however they didn't ask if we wanted it, and the person who found this piece of rubbish in his food was not drinking alcohol. Also, before that they brought us too many beers, and when we said we ordered 6, not 7, they said they don't care, we have to pay anyway. The entire night was incredibly loud and we asked for the speaker to be turned down a bit, but the waitress said that one of the customers has the remote control and she can't do anything about it. When it came to paying, I was charged more, and I had to argue with the waiter, asking her to bring me the menu to show her that I was being overcharged, as she didn't have a fiscal cash register, randomly writing prices on a beer coaster instead. After 3 hours of waiting for food in overheated and super noisy environment, and finding trash in your meal, you would expect at least a discount, not a surcharge! And seal the bad experience, they told us we can't pay by card, only cash, and were reluctant to give us receipt! This...

Exceptional good potato dishes, like fried (not deep fried) and baked potatoes. I don't know a better place for that. The other dishes are all very hearty German food from the region as well and mostly good to very good quality. Great place for travelers to try the cuisine from the region.

Now comes the kicker though, when you are outside you'd not expect to find good food here, since it is a football (FC Köln) club pub. So the atmosphere is a bit shabby. Further a problem I'd like to see fixed is the smell from the bathrooms that at times finds it's way into the dining room.

When you go here, you as well have to consider a longer waiting time, but the great food is worth it. Prices are very fair.

BTW. there is one daily dish at lunch time offered for only about 5-5,50€. Usually it is a good choice.

Ich hatte mich sehr gefreut dort hin zu gehen , da sie dort eine Kegelbahn haben und mir am Telefon auch noch recht kurzfristig 1 Woche um voraus die Möglichkeit zum reservieren gegeben haben. Wir hatten als eine große Gruppe eine Überraschungs- Geburtstagsfeier geplant. Als wir dann mit dem Geburtstagskind vor Ort an kamen und die Überraschung auflösen wollten, wurden wir recht unfreundlich wieder abgewiesen. Mir wurde vorgeworfen ich hätte für den vorherigen Tag reserviert und das der Fehler bei mir läge. Ich wusste natürlich an welchem Tag der Geburtstag ist, kann also nicht den falschen Tag am Telefon gesagt haben. Scheinbar sei der Stammtisch an dem Tag immer da. Das hätte man mir direkt am Telefon sagen müssen, und mir nicht eine anscheinende Reservieren am Telefon mündlich bestätigen dürfen. Weder wurde vor Ort nach einer Lösung gesucht , noch wurde wurde uns angeboten , dort stattdessen essen zu können. Das ganze ist sehr unglücklich abgelaufen und hätte mit deutlich mehr Mitgefühl gehandhabt werden können. Schlechte Organisation und scheinbar für neue Gäste nicht...
