Bangkok Thai Restaurant — Restaurant in Cologne

This was our second time visiting the restaurant. The first time, we didn’t have a reservation and were only given an hour to dine. But the dish we ordered then left a strong impression. That’s why we decided to come back and book a table to enjoy the food without rushing.

Overall, we had a pleasant time. Service was good, the food was fresh, and I appreciate the effort from the kitchen.

We ordered papaya salad, Tom Yum Goong, fried pork with basil, green curry, and two drinks. Each dish was impressive at first bite, bursting with sweetness, sourness, and spiciness. However, it felt like each dish was performing its own solo act rather than being part of a cohesive ensemble. Sweetness stood out across the board, especially in the Tom Yum Goong and papaya salad.

Both the green curry and fried pork with basil were labeled as medium spicy, but the pork dish was much hotter, authentic heat, a bit overwhelming. One thing I really appreciated was how they prepared the meat. It was tender, fresh, and worked beautifully with the sauces. Definitely a highlight.

Ich habe lange überlegt, ob ich diese Rezension schreiben soll, aber letztendlich finde ich, dass das hier gesagt werden muss.

Meine beste Freundin und ich hatten an dem Abend total Lust auf Mango Sticky Rice. Also haben wir die Bewertungen gecheckt und waren eigentlich positiv überrascht. Zur Sicherheit haben wir dann noch im Restaurant angerufen und gefragt, ob sie das Dessert gerade anbieten. Der Herr am Telefon meinte ja. Wir wollten außerdem wissen, wie genau sie es zubereiten und ob wir vorbeikommen könnten, um uns das mal anzusehen. Seine Antwort war nur: „Nein, wir haben keine Bilder. Kommt einfach her, dann seht ihr es.“ Fanden wir etwas komisch, aber gut. Wir haben dann höflich abgelehnt und aufgelegt.

Zwei Minuten später klingelt mein Handy – es war die Nummer des Restaurants. Ich gehe ran und bin erst mal irritiert. Der Mann sagt: „Ihr müsst jetzt kommen, ich habe extra die Küche für euch offen gelassen. Ich habe ja jetzt auch eure Nummer.“ Das hat uns echt gewundert, aber wir waren zu dem Zeitpunkt eh fast da, also sind wir trotzdem reingegangen.

Drinnen haben wir erklärt, dass wir gerade telefoniert hatten und uns nur anschauen wollten, wie ihr Mango Sticky Rice aussieht. Wir hatten noch nichts bestellt, als plötzlich der mitarbeiter mit einer Box und einer weißen Tüte aus der Küche kam. Erst dachten wir, das sei für jemand anderen, und wir dürfen einfach mal reinschauen. Aber als wir einen Blick hineinwarfen, war uns sofort klar: Das ist absolut nicht das, was wir erwartet hatten. Es sah komplett anders aus als das Mango Sticky Rice, das wir aus Düsseldorf kennen, also wollten wir wieder gehen.

Und dann passierte das Merkwürdigste: Der Mann nimmt einen Löffel, hält ihn mir hin und versucht, mich zu füttern. Ich war einfach nur schockiert. Zur Erinnerung: Meine beste Freundin und ich sind beide verlobt – Das war einfach super unangenehm, und wir wollten nur noch raus. Doch dann sagt der Mann plötzlich, dass das Essen für uns sei und wir es bezahlen müssen. Wir hatten nie etwas bestellt, aber um die Situation nicht noch unangenehmer zu machen, haben wir schnell gezahlt und sind raus.

Im Auto dachten wir uns dann: Okay, vielleicht schmeckt es ja wenigstens gut? Wir wollten das Essen nicht unnötig verschwenden. Aber schon beim Gedanken daran wurde mir schlecht. Wir haben es trotzdem probiert – und das war ein großer Fehler. Seitdem kann ich Mango Sticky Rice nicht mal mehr hören, geschweige denn essen. Uns war zwei Tage lang übel.

Nach unserem „Taste Test“ haben wir im Restaurant angerufen und gefragt, wie alt das Dessert ist und was da überhaupt drin war. Aber anstatt uns ernst zu nehmen, versuchten sie so schnell wie möglich das telefonat zu beenden. nach vielem hin und her meinte der kleine mann "ja dann kommt die tage und wir reden" - worüber sollen wir reden dachten wir???? er meinte dann "ja kommt und ihr kriegt euer geld zurück". wir wollten unse geld nicht zurück, sondern antworten zu unseren fragen.

Diese Rezension schreibe ich nicht, um jemanden schlechtzumachen, sondern um darauf aufmerksam zu machen, dass so ein Verhalten einfach nicht geht. Hoffentlich verbessert sich der Service und die Qualität in Zukunft. (die bilder sind aus einem video gescreenshotet) ich bitte euch so sieht kein mango sticky...

The food is excellent, compliments to the chef. But the service is extremely poor and one particularwaitress extremely rude. The waitress has lot of attitude and argumentative. Our starter arrived on time, but we had to wait for a long time for the main dish. My kid was getting very hungry and irritating. So when I politely asked how much longer was the main dish going to take the waitress got argumentative. She started pointing out how it was our fault that we didn't ask her to bring the main dish in short while after the starters. Isn't that the natural flow at every restaurant. But the thing is I wasn't even complaining about the delay. Also, I didn't mention to her that clients who came in after our starter arrived, were being served their main dish. She also started to argue how she had multiple tables to look after, whereas only three tables had customers at the point and the other two tables arrived after us. The thing is, I just wanted to know how much more time they needed to bring in the main dish, and the waitress was very rude...
