Darmstadt is home to a couple brewpubs, with this one being in the city center on the large brick market square. The 4-story building is white with red trim. Outside in front are numerous wood bench tables with large white umbrellas, which fill up on a nice day. Their ornate entrance has an archway with their name in black letters. Just inside the main entrance is their unique 16-sided nearly circular wooden bar. It has several spoke extensions for more counter surface and plenty of surrounding stools. To the left is their open kitchen and further back is a dining room. Downstairs is their cellar room, which was not open when I visited during off-peak hours. On the main level to the right is their brewhouse. They have two beautiful shiny copper brewing vessels, a nice view from the bar. The floor is wood planks, the walls are white with wood trim, and there is a motif of ivy and hop vines decoration around the perimeter and over the bar. They have 3-4 house beers on tap, which are available in a variety of sizes. These are well made and enjoyable. My favorite was their Spezial Dunkler. Their food menu consists of pretzel appetizers, soup, salads, spatzle, and several meat entrees. It is not an extensive menu, but the food is decent. The staff is welcoming and proficient, and although they do not speak English, they do have an English translation menu. It is a charming, relaxing place...
Read moreThe beer is great and the accompaniments are great too. Because of the huge rush on weekends, many times we just get beer in a bottle to take home( it is available when you check at the counter). The people at the counter are nice and friendly and in the past we have had a good experience with the service too. But on our recent visit, our experience was not all that great. We were sharing a table with 2 other people as the place was very crowded. Despite knowing that, the person who was serving us didn't even come on our side to take the order. He repeated that every time we ordered more beers, making it a little inconvenient for the other people also who were sitting along with us. Moreover, he seemed to be in a bad mood. We thought that he might be tired after a long day of work. But we later observed that he was quite nice and friendly with other customers. The beer is good so, we will definitely go there again. Hope to be served by someone else because we know that Raksteller does have polite and...
Read moreOne of the rudest restaurants that we've ever been. Very unfriendly with family with children. Definitely not recommend. The people nearby our table yelled at us when our children are crying like "what do you think where you are. We can't talk and hear each other just because of your children". I meant if they want to have a peaceful place for chatting, either they chose a more suitable restaurant or just stay at home (?). Brewery is always noisy not just because of children but also everyone speak very loudly as well. Of course, it is not the bad of the restaurant to have such customers, but surprisingly, later, the owner came to us and said that if his children are that naughty and noisy, he will tell them that they will need to stay at home and can't hang out with the parents anymore. What even relevant here??? Such a weird place. Maybe they can have a restriction that not allowed to have children so everything will be more transparent about their expectations for...
