Tô, a vibrant Vietnamese outpost in the Neustadt district of Dresden, defies the expectations set by its surroundings. Among the rugged remnants of Eastern Bloc architecture, this restaurant stands as a testament to the tenacity and flair of Vietnamese cuisine. Tô is not just a place to eat; it's a culinary microcosm that reflects the vibrant spirit of a far-off land amid the stark backdrop of a bygone era.
The Mien Xao with crispy duck is an epitome of this vibrant contrast. Each bite of the perfectly fried duck, with its tantalizing crispness enveloping a decadent creaminess, transports you from the austere surroundings to the bustling markets of Hanoi. Complemented by an abundance of fresh vegetables and a flavorful sauce, the dish is a bold symphony of tastes and textures.
My dining partner's choice, the Pho Ga, continued the gastronomic narrative. This wasn't merely a bowl of soup; it was a flavorful voyage. The rich broth, tender chicken, dainty noodles, and aromatic herbs and spices came together to form a harmonious concoction that was both comforting and invigorating.
The journey was made even more enchanting by the unexpected joy of a mango lassi. An atypical addition to a Vietnamese fare, it proved to be a sweet detour from the norm. The creamy richness intertwined with the tangy sweetness of ripe mango provided a refreshing contrast to our savory choices. Our dining experience was rounded off with the surprising tartness of the Asia Iced Tea, a delightfully unexpected finale to our meal.
In Neustadt, against a landscape of stern architectural remnants, Tô is an emblem of vibrant cultural resilience. It's more than a purveyor of food; it's a bridge that links the rustic streets of Dresden to the lively lanes of Saigon, offering patrons a slice of Vietnamese vibrancy with every bite. This, ladies and gentlemen, is the captivating...
Read moreVery rude staff. When we arrived there at 15.30. We were told the lunch menu is over. Although it mentioned on the board outside that it was open till 4 pm. None the less when we ordered tea. The waitress had bought it with sugar inside. We politely asked her to replace it as one of my friends does not drink tea with sugar. She started abusing us. All we just asked was tea with sugar separately. We didn’t expect to be treated like garbage. We left the place immediately. The waitress was shouting at us on our way out. Would never go back there. Also would never recommend this place to anyone. I have known Vietnamese people to be warm & very polite. This was surely an exception. I felt very disappointed. The worst part was her chef(boss) did not even think it was necessary to intervene. He watched plainly as the waitress was shouting at us! No go zone for us! Beware of such places. It can destroy...
Read moreReally disappointing visit — I felt absolutely ripped off. My friend and I ordered two mango salads that could not have been further from a mango salad: it was just coleslaw with about 5 skinny shavings of Mango. I had prawns as a topping. Those were still partly frozen (tiny too) and cut into halves so I had basically two prawns for an extra few euros. It’s an absolute piss take and I can’t believe the cheek of it. It lacks love and warmth and skill. It’s underwhelming and I felt cheated. Do not go there; it’s not worth your money or time, I...
