Café Europa — Restaurant in Dresden

Although the manager of this place apologised for the situation, I still have to post this. Because what's just happened is extraordinary and really ruined my day, and I do not wish anything like that to anyone. Of course, I had to add that this is my personal impression and opinion. I know the cafe since 2011. It was always fine. I went there yesterday and had to wait 20 minutes for my food. I thought that they were just having a busy day. Today, I waited for my food another 20 minutes or even longer. I got a cold cacao with some strange looking cream that was called hot maya. Then I went inside and said that I have to go and that I only pay the drink (which I could not drink) but not the rest that still was not served. The waitress easily agreed. But then she started to blame me that I should have seen that the place is full. It was actually half-empty. I told her she'd better told me that they were overloaded before. I was leaving hungry to an appointed event. She started to scream, and I asked to talk to her manager. Instead, she brought a cook from the kitchen and they started to kind of press me together. It was really scary. They said something like "What's your problem here? What do you want?". I only pointed to them that I found their behaviour unfriendly. They continued. The waitress kept saying that she has a witness -- the cook -- who can tell her boss she actually behaved normally. I left and called the manager. He did not sound like willing to listen to me in the beginning, only when I asked if I should submit my complain in a written form. I won't go there any more. This used to be my favourite place for ten years, I recommended it to all my friends, unbelievably that it turned out...

Last week some friends were visiting, we went there for a quick brunch before continuing our tour in Dresden. The place was 3/4 full with many empty but uncleaned tables. We waited more than 10min to be seated, after we asked the waiter he offered us a table that was not cleaned. We waited for another 20min and no body would take our order nor clean the table. We asked a waitress to order, she was offended that we sat there without her “permission” and was rude to us, she said it was our “fault”! she took our order but didn’t clean the table. When we asked her another time she wiped it with her hand which was really gross. After more than 40min, the place was mostly empty, no food came, not even coffee. We could see the waitress doing nothing behind the bar, after we rudely complained she came after 1min with machine made coffee, our food came 10min after that. Even though we ordered the 3 of us the same plate: eggs with spinach. It wasn’t the same in every plate 🤣 my friend had undercooked frozen spinach that was too liquidy, my plate was better but the taste was below average. We left frustrated after that and i will never go back there again. Even when i spoke with my friends one week later, they mentioned again how bad the experience was, they said it was the worst they saw in Germany since they came 7 years ago, it’s really sad how beautiful Dresden is, but all they can remember from their trip is how bad...

I just finished my breakfast here. I didn’t have much expectations on a Monday morning with the place. Besides one gentlemen, there was no one in the cafe. I went in and was happy to see that they responded in English. Then everything unfortunately went downhill.

I checked the menu which was German and asked if they had an English alternative, they didn’t and she suggested I google translate and left. I can understand if there were many folks, but with no one around at least she could have taken the effort to help me a little. And there no menu for coffees, which is unusual for a Cafe. But it is no big thing, I ordered coffee with toasted bread and scrambled eggs with spinach, onion and tomato. She suggested butter, and I ordered it.

The coffee came, and it was terrible. It didn’t taste not fresh and was tasteless. This followed by the main dish, where the bread was not toasted, the butter was missing and the spinach was not cooked well at all.

I’m sorry to say this, but if you are looking for a good breakfast, do your self good service by going further 10 metres from this shop to Elbsalon.
