Greger Café — Restaurant in Dusseldorf

Lovely, warm and cozy place to grab a quick breakfast. The cheese bagel was really delicious and my cafe latte was smooth and creamy. The decoration is simple but it makes you feel welcomed and comfortable. I spent 10€ for a latte and a bagel, it felt a little overpriced at the beginning but I stopped caring about the price when I discovered that they support an environment project, with every drink you buy you help to plant one tree, this makes you feel good and helpful while you enjoy your coffee 😊🤎 And of course the staff was nice while I was ordering in English, with good manners and a friendly face, I know how hard it is to keep smiling while working in customer service so I appreciate a smiley face when I see it. I loved this place until today when the behavior of the barista/barman simply shocked me. I came with my family and we ordered two coffees and a Grauburgunder wine. after I said this word, the barman repeated it and added “it’s correct to pronounce it like this, let’s try to repeat after me.” It was unthinkable and very humiliating. Moreover, it is simply unethical, since people may have various physical reasons and peculiarities of pronunciation of letters or words. but does this make the bartender a mentor and speech therapist for an adult person publicly? Das Greger ist rein optisch ein wenig an Cafés in San Franzisco angelehnt. Eine Mischung aus shabby chick und custom made. Auf jeden Fall angenehm, aber nicht unbedingt herausstechend oder außergewöhnlich gemütlich. Einfach nett.

Der Laden ist aber aus anderen Gründen einen Besuch wert:

Zum einen kann ich mich nicht erinnern, in den letzten Jahren so nette und zuvorkommende Mitarbeiter erlebt zu haben. Man hat sich sowas von willkommen gefühlt - das habe ich so schon sehr lange nichts mehr erlebt und muss das wirklich heraus heben. In dieser Beziehung hat man sich hier wirklich amerikanische Coffee Shops zum Vorbild genommen.

Man spezialisiert sich hier auf Kaffee, den ich zwar durchaus gerne trinke, mit dem ich persönlich aber keine Leidenschaft verbinde. Wer da emotionaler reagiert, hat aber einen Grund mehr, ins Greger zu kommen. Mein Bruder ist so jemand und hat den Kaffee über den Klee gelobt. Selbst mir fiel auf, mit wie viel Liebe und Sorgfalt er zubereitet war. Definitiv besser als der Durchschnitt.

Ich für meinen Teil konnte mich an meisten begeistern für die porridge Theke, wo man kalten oder warmen porridge bestellen kann mit einer riesen Auswahl von leckeren, bzw frischen toppings. Für mich das Highlight des Ladens und der beste Grund, Mal einen Besuch zu wagen. Im Endeffekt haben fast alle unsere Mitgäste porridge bestellt und es nicht bereut. Auch die Backwaren sahen gut aus und waren es wohl auch. Aber ich würde immer wieder den porridge wählen. Wir waren sicher nicht zum...
