Cafe & Bar Celona Essen — Restaurant in Essen

This review goes across two visits. Once for lunch and once for a late breakfast. Looked to be a decent place, but the paintings were crooked for some inexplicable reason. Not just off a little bit, but purposely hung crooked. I'm sorry, but that takes away from the otherwise cozy atmosphere.

Lunch: we ordered a craft mocktail, an avocado and egg bread, and a schnitzel. The schnitzel was good, no real complaints at all. The bread item was... lacking. It was very cold, and wet, and soggy, to our dismay, because the taste itself was good. To be fair, it didn't actually say "toast" on the menu, but one would expect such an item to be toasted. The mocktail was good with fresh raspberries. Good service this time around.

We thought to give it another go for our late breakfast. Ordered pancakes, a caesar wrap, scrambled eggs and bacon, and a bread and cheese plate. The description for the bread was a bit confusing, and the server really didn't know how to explain the choices properly either. After quite some time, a completely different server brought our food to us. The pancakes cost €8,50 for some very small and sad cakes. The menu only says you get five but doesn't give a size, and at that price, it almost feels deceitful. The eggs were okay, but they forgot the bacon. This was corrected in a timely manner, by the second waiter.

The bread was ok, but the caesar wrap was something else. Firstly, I have never in my life heard of a hot caesar wrap. Maybe the chicken inside would be hot, but not the whole thing. I'm guessing it was baked, but whatever they did to it was completely ass backwards. The lettuce was wilted and hot, the dressing turned into a runny mess, and the chicken was just warm somehow. Biting into it caused it to explode the hot, runny sauce. It fell apart under its own liquids shortly after, and we resorted to eating it with a knife and fork. That barely worked, but this is a horrible menu item.

After we finally finished we waited around for some 20 minutes. Our server was running around but just wouldn't come back to the table, even though our plates were cleared by someone else. The Atmosphere is nice. The foods were great. we already tried their Breakfastbuffet a numerous times and my exprienced was nice until today. One staff didn't said about the need to pay extra for the cake that is being displayed in the buffet area. my husband and daughter came at 9am. and the first thing we took was the cake. she took our extra orders and didn't say anything about the cake. my friends came( for the first time) at around 10am and another staff told her in ill mannered that she need to pay extra for it. until she came into our table and talked to me. that we took the cake (which was since 9am)and we need to pay extra for it. so i asked the other staff nicely who initially entertained us. and SHE said no. its OK. honestly saying, it is definitely ok to pay extra.as long as the information was delivered to us from the point we arrived and we gave our first order. besides we ordered extras. just want to say, labeled those not included in your buffet or else just don't put it in the buffet area. people cannot keep on asking every busy staffs if this specific foods were included in the...

I'm sorry for giving just two stars because the place in fact it's nice & the food it's also good The problem it's with the service because you have to wait for a coffee a lifetime while you're able to eat as much as you want with your "breakfast buffet" It's not the first time I came here and it has been always the same way Today was the worst experience because I asked for a sparkling water and the bill. They came with two waters and the bill. It was impossible for me to explain that I just wanted one water (and of course I asked for "einmal Mineralwasser" in perfect German)
