Great place to have bagels. Bagels with a variety of fillings and formats, hot and cold. The staff is friendly, efficient and speaks good English as well. Clientele is mostly the brunch crowd so arrive early to be able to sit outside in the sun. The bagels are house made and there are ample options for vegetarians and non vegetarians alike. We had Capri, Tel Aviv , Rio bagels. The fillings included mozzarella, tomato, walnut, rocket pesto, roast beef, avacado, hummus and chicken.

Wir haben 3 verschiedene Bagels bestellt und waren ehrlichgesagt sehr entäuscht. Der „Capri“ Bagel mit Tomate und Mozzarella hatte genau eine Scheibe Tomate drin. Zudem hatte es statt frischer Mozzarella zwei Scheiben Industriemozzarella drin (hat eigentlich nichts mit Mozzarella zu tun). Mein Freund hatte ein „Parma“ Bagel (gemäss Menü mit Schinken, Parmesan und Rucola). Also erstens geht man bei Parma davon aus, dass es auch Parmaschinken (oder mindestens eine Art Rohschinken) drin hat und nicht einen billigen Kochschinken. Der Parmesan hat eher geschmeckt wie eine vegane Käsealternative, aber es war sicher kein Parmesan! Der Rucola hat gänzlich gefehlt! Der Bergamo Bagel mit Gorgonzola war ok. Es scheint einfach so als würde an allen Ecken und Enden an guten Zutaten gespart werden, aber als Gast bezahlt man trotzdem Preise, als wären qualitativ hochwertige Zutaten drin!

Einen Bagel als "Parma Bagel" zu bezeichnen und dann mit billigem Kochschinken zu belegen, ist an sich schon eine Irreführung. Vom versprochenen Rucola gab es dann etwa drei Blättchen. Parmesan hatte es keinen drin, sondern irgend ein billiges fein geraffeltes Ersatzprodukt, das keinen Geschmack hatte. Ansonsten wurde der Bagel mit viel Salat und französischer Salatsauce gefüllt. Wie kommt man denn auf die Idee? Einfach nur billigste Zutaten verwendet und dann fast 7 Euro dafür verlangen, absolute Frechheit. Auch die anderen Bagel, die wir hatten, glänzten durch billige Zutaten ergänzt durch Salat und Salatsauce. Das was sie als Mozarella bezeichnen, ist billiger Industriekäse, der Näher an Schablettenkäse als an Mozarella dran ist. Zudem haben wir Ewigkeiten gewartet. Absolut nicht zu empfehlen.

We came here every day during our study abroad and looked forward to it every morning. The only bad thing about Castanea is that it is closed on Monday. I wish I could box these bagels and make everyone I know experience the euphoria they bring. There is no way to overstate how much we love it here!! Great Rio bagel (Roastbeef, Avocado, herb Frischkäse) and ok Paris bagel (camembert, honey&orange mustard, grapes and walnuts). It technically is a Laugenbagel, the same dough as a Laugenbrezel, but I have to say I like it better than the original bagel dough.
