First time experiencing what I’d call racism. We ordered our cakes and the front and went to go look for a table as told. Upon looking around we saw 2 waiters/waitresses who gave us unwelcoming looks saying there was no space.

We went back to the front to tell the person who took our order, where she told us there should be a table for 2 next door. She told us to follow her. Once we entered the dining area, the lady asked the waitress if the table for 2 in the corner was available where she immediately replied yes it is until she saw us standing there. Immediately upon seeing us she said there is no space and the table is unavailable but we could take our order to. Of course we did not.

One of the best cafés in Freiburg - a must visit for any one with a sweet tooth. The selection of cakes and pastries is fantastic and the quality of what we had was very high. Seating area is pleasant, and ambience is calm and peaceful and staff are very friendly.

However the Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte ("Black Forest cake/gâteau") to be honest was not overwhelmingly impressive, and I mention it mainly because many tourists would like to try the local specialty. The sweetness of the cream is a little too low to offset the sourness of the cherries and there is not much Kirschwasser flavour coming through. There are cafés that do it better (see my other reviews). Perhaps try the Bienenstich or the cake topped...

We loved the ambience, the friendly service and the Black Forest cake (“Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte”). The establishment is a confectionary and has been making some of the local specialties for 100 years. The service is pleasantly friendly and measured to allow you to thoroughly enjoy the experience of having your delicious drink and food (very nice expresso and tea for us, but they also have a wide variety of hot chocolate and other coffee drinks). Not a place to come If you’re in a hurry: it would be wrong not to enjoy the classic but unpretentious historical cafe! They also have breakfast sets so perhaps it is nice also in that setting!
