Rappen am Münsterplatz — Hotel in Freiburg im Breisgau

What was meant to be a nice and special stay with a pretty view ended up being a very basic hotel, with unfriendly personnel and a room with a view of a cathedral in scaffolds and sun awnings under the window. |I also found it particularly odd that the reception is inside the bar and is basically at a bar cashier. We arrived little after 1 pm and of course our room was not ready. I think they make a point of not letting you to your room before 3 pm no matter if its ready or not. We walked around a bit and came back maybe an hour later cause we decided to have dinner later that day at the hotel's restaurant and wanted to ask if we need to book the table. Upon seeing us the same woman that said our room is not ready immediately barked to her colleague to tell us that the room is still not ready not even listening first what we came for to ask. I assume she did not know we can understand german... Not a very nice welcome. |The room was very basic and modest in size (and it was a deluxe) and the view was disappointing particularly because our room was right above the sun awning of the hotel. Being that low you also feel very exposed to a square full of people. |Would I go back to this hotel -...

We travelled as a group of 3 ladies staying for 2 night. We arrived at reception and it took 10 minutes to be acknowledged by the manager and checked in, we were pointed to the apartment upstairs. The stairs were smelly not sure if this was drains or cleaning products used, but it was an unpleasant smell. |The two bed apartment was basic but clean. There was a fridge and a kettle but no crockery or filters so we had to ask for these. There was no tea or coffee sachets so not sure what the purpose of the kettle is!We were not given any info re facilities, breakfast times or bar facilities. We ordered drinks and asked for these to be added to our room but were told NO by the man that had checked us in, no reason just a flat no.|The area is mixed and there are some really lovely places to eat Tilia cafe and Shickschmeide restaurant with great service|Would I go back to this hotel...

Great location, right next to cathedral. Very friendly service and welcome beverages offered, which is a very nice touch. The room is modern, must have been renovated in the last few years, as the building and restaurant looks much older / more traditional. The main issue was the food smell through the entire day. The kitchen odor of fried fat is in the entire stairway and blows inside your room. When you open the window (my room was facing the inside courtyard) food smell blows in too. So if you have a sensitive nose, this hotel is not for you! Beds very comfortable and the floor heater in the bathroom is very nice.
