Our experience seems to be at odds with others, so we were perhaps just unfortunate, but I am remain surprised by the rating and reviews of this hotel.||I would open by stating that the two ladies on reception during the day were very good at attending to our needs, including rectifying some problems we experienced. I would also add that the water was hot and that the room was large and well styled (not so the bathroom which was extremenly small), and finally that the location is central, albeit not the prettiest being opposite a car park and next to a large supermarket.||However, this was one of the most disappointing stays we have ever had, particularly for a 4 star hotel, which leaves me very surprised at the rating.||The two stand out disappointments were due to staff. On returning one evening after dinner, we found that one of the duvets was not clean and had flecks of brown, plastic like deposits on it (I subsequently found the same on the remaining duvet a day or two later, so this must be due to the cleaning process). On going down to speak to reception, the gentleman apologised and appeared at the room 10 minutes later, but only with a replacement duvet cover which we would be required to fit to the duvet. We were surprised that we were being asked to replace a dirty duvet cover ourselves rather than just being given a complete replacement duvet to put on the bed. However, I was more surprised with how stressed and agitated the gentleman got when I pointed this out, whereupon he raced off, returning several minutes later with the said replacement single duvet fitted with a clean duvet cover, still stressed and agitated, telling me that he'd had to block out another room as a result, heavily implying that this was my fault. It was bizarre. Of course he now had the dirty duvet cover on the duvet passed back to him, together with the clean duvet cover he had brought to the room, which would have allowed him to replace the clean duvet in the room apparently blocked out. His tone also became somewhat sarcastic and it was most unsettling. Thankfully we did not encounter him again.||We also received poor service at breakfast on our first morning, We arrived to find most of the tables were free, but they had not been cleaned. The two staff seated us at a dirty table of four, next to each other on the clean side of the table. Again, really poor service. This also followed a morning in the room where we had been kept awake by dogs whining in a nearby room for over an hour. That's the first time I've ever experienced this in a hotel, where guests have pets in their rooms which disturb others. The guest had left the dogs in the room and they were whining for their owner. As a result, we complained to reception and were told the lady with the dogs was checking out that morning, and we also had a table reserved for us the next morning.||There were two occasions where needed to call down for things to be replaced in the room which had not been done by room service. the first time house-keeping appears within a few minutes which was great. The second time, despite mentioning to reception before we headed out for the evening, when we retuned tissues had not been replenished. When next at reception, I enquired about this and the tissues had been left in the pigeon hole for the room behind reception, and I was duly given them to take to the room and fit into the on wall dispenser myself. Again, we'd never encountered this before.||Overall, a really, really...
Read moreWe enjoyed our 3 night stay at the Central hotel! ||We booked the 4th floor suite since we were traveling with my son and needed the extra bed. The room was quite spacious and comfortable. The beds were great and I appreciated all of the amenities in the bathroom. Please note, there is no elevator that runs to the 4th floor. You have to take the elevator to the 3rd floor and walk up one flight.||The staff was very very kind and friendly! We had a very early morning checkout to catch our train and breakfast wasn't opened yet, but the lady behind the desk was very happy to bring us coffee to-go. Very much appreciated.||We loved the free breakfast, especially coffee served on real china! Very fancy. The breakfast choices were excellent. Everyone can find something to eat whether it's cured meats, cooked eggs, yogurt, fresh fruit or pastries. ||The only negative comment I have is the hotel smells like cigarette smoke. The minute you walk in to the hotel from the outside it hits you in the face, and you can smell it up and down the stairs. We didn't smell it in our 4th floor suite but if cigarette smells bother you be aware of this. ||Otherwise, we'd stay here again. We loved the location and it's a walk to old town and other...
