Food was ok - not very good and not bad, unfortunately the service and pricing are that of petty thieves: We asked for tap water and were not informed that it costs money, only when receiving the bill we found out that we were charged for it. We ordered from "special dishes of the week". They were not presented as appetizers and we were not told anything in the time of ordering. After waiting a few minutes we were asked if we want these dishes as a main dish and we confirmed. Again, we were not told that this means an additional cost, only when receiving the bill we found out that we were charge a significant extra for these dishes. Note that the price of these dishes was high (for this kind of food) already in the first place - even as a main dish. Although the waitress "forgot" to mention the extra charges when we ordered, she did care to tell us (exactly in these words): "I do not have time to explain to you" after we asked a few questions about the menu. To summarize: Ok food, fraudulent service and pricing. Not...

First of all, the place had a very comfortable atmosphere, as the alpine Bavarian style promises. The staff was very caring, kind and friendly, even asking for a specific person to help us with the language.

However, there were a few issues with the food and our experience was not the best. We started with cheese soup, which had a very good taste, but was not warm enough, ending up getting cold after a few minutes at our table. Order then a salad, which was good. With the normal dishes, we ordered a spinach ravioli, which was kind of dry and not seasoned enough. We understand that at the menu there is no description of a sauce, but we were at least expecting a little bit. At last, we also ordered some deer meat with pumpkin puree. The puree was wonderful. The meat was a bit too raw and not seasoned enough.

We understand that maybe that's how the food is done in most places, but it wasn't really the way we like it. So, if you're going to the restaurant, keep an eye on how the food...

Very disappointed with Gasthaus zur Schranne on Saturday late afternoon. I’ve been wanting to go there for ages having seen it many times passing through Garmish. But on Saturday when we arrived and waited to be seated (which the sign says when you walk in, which is fine) nobody showed the least bit of interest in showing us to any seat!! It wasn’t busy, inside or in the biergarden, the staff were all chatting away to themselves and completely ignoring us and the 2 people already there waiting before us. My partner asked – in German – if someone would attend to us and she was completely ignored. At this stage there were a total of 8 people waiting to be seated, and still no one shows any interest. I made a decision to leave – along with another couple. If no one shows any interest in seating guests what type of interest will be shown once seated. Very disappointed and will not be going back to try the...

Great spot for lunch in the Garmisch area. They have a couple of large rooms inside with ample seating. If the weather is nice, the outside patio is a perfect spot, even in the warm summers as the building give shade to most of the space. Nice views of the decorated buildings and peeks at the mountains from in between those buildings. The inside is traditionally decorated with old pictures and memorabilia with wood ceilings with exposed beams, and paneled walls. My traditional Bavarian pork was a great lunch. Large slabs of pork, with a sauce and potato dumplings made for a hearty meal. The portions were large enough that we all shared around the table. The Augustiner lager that was recommended was the perfect accompaniment. Wait staff was excellent, getting the order spot on and bringing everything for our table of five out in one trip!

Gasthaus zur Schranne in Garmisch-Partenkirchen offers a cozy Bavarian vibe with a modest but decent selection of gluten-free options. Tonight, my wife enjoyed their gluten-free beef with gravy, paired with fried potatoes and a potato-cucumber salad. The beef was tender and flavorful, though we confirmed with the staff to ensure the gravy was gluten-free, as cross-contamination can be a concern here. The fried potatoes were crispy and well-seasoned, and the salad was a refreshing side. The staff was attentive and willing to accommodate gluten-free requests, which made the experience pleasant. The kitchen isn’t fully dedicated to gluten-free so make sure you speak with your server. They also have a separate Gluten-free/ allergy menu they can give. Overall, a solid choice for a gluten-free meal in a traditional setting.
