Café Max — Restaurant in Garmisch-Partenkirchen

First time for us in Bayern and also at this cafe. We went there because of the good online reviews. The place was also near our stay so we chose to eat breakfast there. The cafe is small, warm and smells like cinnamon. There was absolutely no kitchen/food smell, you could just smell the expensive perfumes of the guests, which i found delightful. We didn't get a place inside but it was no problem for us to eat outside. The food was very delicious and nicely plated. We went there twice, just for the food and because it was practical for us. But we didn't feel welcomed, rather unwanted, the ladies were very impersonal and not once did one of them even smile. We got the feeling they did not want to be bothered, so we tried not to... Read the reviews and stopped by today without a reservation hoping I could fit in as a party of one. The inside tables were reserved but I was seated outside. There is an English menu scan code with your phone and they have wifi. My salad and iced latte were perfect. It is a small cafe, so I do understand why reservations are important, as well most restaurants here do require them during the busy high seasons. There are simply too many visitors for this small area, so its not the fault of the restaurant if they cannot seat you without one. I think the comments that the waitress is rude might not be familiar with how Germans are straight to the point demeanor and might mistake that for rudeness. Absolutely amazing experience. We were there earlier than expected and they seated us immediately as we had a reservation. We called a day before and were given a table but were told it’ll be for 90 mins which was fine for us. Could see why they have the time restriction as they had to turn away guests who come without reservation as the place is packed on a Sunday morning :)

Super quick service and sweet staff as well. Our dishes were top notch & the flat white was ace! Definitely coming back again and the next time it would be in summer so we can sit outside and enjoy the beautiful alpine views.
