Took a long time before we were seated and when finally being seated the waitress just waved in a general direction mostly, instead of directing us to a table.
After being seated it took a little while to get the menus, we asked for English but got only one English menu, we swapped with a German guy which got an English menu instead of German.
Virtually all dishes have soy in them, which can be problematic due to allergies. (there is more to vegan diets than soy). However, it seems that allergies are noted on the menu very elaborately.
After our order we got one wrong item (with soy, which one of us was allergic to), after telling this to the waiter his first response was more something of disbelief and trying to say we were in the wrong and he couldn't have made this mistake. He checked in the kitchen, and we heard that the originally ordered dish was out-of-stock.
Of the resulting dishes, one was just a very weird combination of sour, salt, sweet and umami which wasn't very appetizing. The other dish was pretty good for the...
Read moreBodhi is a very tasty vegan restaurant with a delicious Asian flavour.
The restaurant is located in a very lively part of Hamburg and offers vegan food in different Asian cuisine styles. Mostly dominated by tofu variations and rice noodles. What I enjoyed is the different starters they offer and the vegan sushi.
I had the Pagoda Dream since I love udon noodles. It was very tasty, although I am not the biggest fan of tofu. Overall a very tasty dish! The edamame as a starter was perfect for all the people at the table. The cocktails are also very tasty and include very exotic flavors! I enjoyed their signature bodhi cocktail.
As a dessert we ordered the Mochi Ice, which was very tasty with an added mango sauce.
Sadly the restaurant only accepts cash, which for me will always be a minus point. Especially if the place has dishes which can add up to a pricey bill.
Service was very friendly and the atmosphere is very relaxed. I really enjoyed the decorations making it a very...
Read moreI came here because "vegan house" did not sound like as if it was trying to make Asian dishes vegan - I sometimes tried such places and it usually was a mediocre fusion that lacked in taste. This is different for An Vegan House. While it apparently does have a heavy Vietnamese influence, I found the dishes being so far from authentic Vietnamese cuisine (taking many ideas from Indonesian, Thai and Japanese dishes) and moreover "veganized" that I could indeed enjoy it. Some of the bowls (e.g. the one with udon noodles) are rather bland (some components like the crispy rice stick seem to be purely there for presentation, not for taste), but the tapas style dishes were really good, with a refreshing reliance on different herbs. In short: don't go here for authentic Vietnamese cuisine but for what the restaurant's name implies: vegan dishes - made well. Oh and the service is also...
