Kaisers — Restaurant in Hamburg

This place sells both burgers and sushi, which honestly feels like a strange combo – and not in a good way. But we gave it a try anyway, and I ended up ordering something called a sushi dog.

And I have to say… it was definitely an experience. The taste was surprisingly good – the fish was fresh, and I actually liked the deep-fried rice that replaced the hot dog bun. It’s basically a weird fusion between German sausage culture and Japanese sushi – a hot dog made entirely of sushi ingredients. The crispy rice “bun” and the soft salmon on top worked well flavour-wise, but it was definitely messy to eat.

While it tasted good and was fun to try, I wouldn’t order it again. What I love about Japanese cuisine is the delicate presentation and this kind of threw all that out the window.

Also, my husband got the burger, which was very mediocre at best – definitely not worth it. So if you do end up here, skip the burger, maybe try the sushi dog once for...

At other times I might have given 4 stars for this terrace on the waterside with a pleasant location, tasty, but not outstanding food, and friendly, informal service. But they earned an extra star today, because faced with some complex dietary issues: (1) the friendly waiter took careful note and went to verify some details with the kitchen; (2) the kitchen was able to prepare variations of items offered on the menu, demonstrating that food, for which this is possible, is indeed prepared freshly - a test quite a number of equally priced or more expensive restaurants in Hamburg have failed during our stay; (3) a lunch that really tasted well and fully satisfied our needs for a still very reasonable price. We will happiliy come back...

Sometimes I need to write, because the experience was wierd.

Food: Salat a: outstanding good. pan fish meal: dry and overcooked. Salmon: was ok. Big portions!

Location outside: your are located in an area with industrial "Charme". Which is absolutely ok.

Service: my reason to write. A strange weird waiter. Somehow aggressive, full of personal problems I guess. Telling us stories about punishing his kids... Weird and something you definitely do not want to experience. In best case I hope, that man finds peace some days. 😪
