Mahadosa — Restaurant in Hamburg

I am forced to write this review because of the behaviour of the German speaking waiter. He does not know what customer service looks like. I had a simple question about the ingredients of the food and he shot back saying -"this is how indian food looks like." For context I am Indian myself. Since I have food intolerance and allergies I simply wanted to know more about what I was eating. The German speaking waiter wearing black t-shirt did not want to say anything and said "you should read the menu carefully." After this I did read the menu to check if it was my mistake and saw that it wasn't as the menu was not clarifying the information I was asking. I called him again and he told me that "they serve authentic south indian food so I should not ask any more questions."

In this situation an Indian man who identified as the cook came out and I explained the situation to him. He answered my questions nicely and switched the dishes. This man also gave us complimentary dessert.

Finally the first guy came to clear out the plates and screamed at the top of his voice how "we had already received more than enough from them because my dish was switched and dessert was given." And that "we should be grateful to them for this".

This whole experience was terrible. I would not have written here if this one waiter had not been so disrespectful. There were other minor issues like unclean washroom, no soap for washing hands etc. But this was fixed by another indian man working at the restaurant.

I am still suffering from the food intolerance today morning after yesterday's dinner as I had consumed 30% of the first dish.

4 stars for the food because they switched my plate and also the other people working at the restaurant are...

Visited this place for the first and last time on 24th February Friday evening. Food is okay, nothing breathtaking, nothing bad. Amount quite small as for those prices. Just completely average food in my opinion. Please discuss with your personel about the reasons for their salary, because forcing customers for tips by making comments, even if we are not fully done with payment yet is unacceptable - waiter was referring to where am I from and commented if that is normal that in my country we do not give tips. I am spending 80-90 euros on an evening not for someone to push on me his frustrations about their job conditions - that’s a thing to discuss with your leader, I do not discuss my income compared to restaurant prices as well once comming to your place. There is always the problem with tips by card, therefore I have always some euros in cash for that - which I am leaving after being done with payment and covering a bill. Was not possible unfortunately because I had to listen to some comments on my origins, which started while I was just reaching out to my purse for a tip cash. I tipped a waiter but I doubt that for this behaviour. Tip is volountarly, be happy if you get that and do not blame guests for your salary - we already are supporting your work place , if we feel like we sharing more, wait for that and just...

Ich bin leider sehr enttäuscht.

Ich war vor einigen Wochen, an einem Samstag dort, alle Läden in der Nähe waren voll, weswegen wir uns für dieses Restaurant entschieden haben. Leider war der Laden auch voll, aber ein sehr lieber junger Herr vorne im empfang hat uns doch noch einen Tisch besorgt. Problem= der Tisch war für 6 Personen und wir waren zu dritt. Der junge Herr meinte das würde klappen und ein anderer, älterer Kellner war sichtlich sauer wegen seiner Entscheidung und wollte ihn überreden das er uns den Tisch doch nicht gibt. Der junge Mann hat aber darauf bestanden und uns nach unten an einem sehr schönen Platz gebracht.

Der ältere Herr (graue Kleidung, Bart, graue Haare mit Zopf.) Hat uns bedient. Das Gericht was ich mir ausgesucht habe hat 15,50€ gekostet, als ich meine Bestellung aufgegeben habe, habe ich sofort nichtmal 2 Sekunden danach gefragt ob das Gericht den scharf sei. Der Herr ist sichtlich sauer geworden, meinte zu mir, „ja das ist pikant“, ich hätte das jetzt aber bestellt und könne es nicht mehr abbestellen und muss das jetzt kaufen, ich war geschockt von der Art und Weise wie er mit mir gesprochen hatte und habe stotternd versucht zu erklären das ich nichts scharfes essen kann und ich ja direkt gefragt habe. Er ist abgehauen ohne mich ausreden zu lassen und ich saß da und war absolut geschockt was da passiert ist.

Nach 5 Minuten kommt er wieder. Er entschuldigt sich und meint er sei respektlos gewesen, was würde ich den sonst haben wollen. Ich wieder glücklich, habe mir ein Gericht ausgesucht von dem er meinte das es nicht scharf sei. 13,50€ hat das gekostet.

Essen kommt an, noch nie in meinem Leben sowas scharfes gegessen, hab es natürlich auch nicht aufgegessen, aber auch nichts gesagt, weil ich einfach kein Stress haben wollte. Meine Freunde probieren und meinen auch das es ja unverschämt scharf wäre, dafür das ich ja extra es noch getauscht bekommen habe.

Wir gehen zum bezahlen hoch und ich hatte schon vor gehabt kein Trinkgeld zu geben, da mir das einfach zu doof alles war und meine Freunde genug gegeben haben. HAHA aber nein. Ich gebe dem alten Herrn 15€ in die Hand und erwarte mein Wechselgeld, er behauptet ich müsse ihm 15,50€ geben (Preis vom Gericht was ich nicht bekommen/gegessen habe) er hat ohne ein weiteres Wort von mir sich anzuhören, mein Geld eingepackt, mir ganz schnell versucht zu erklären das ich ja das erste bestellt habe und auch wenn ich es nicht gegessen habe, es bezahlen muss und sagt noch zu mir, ja ok, dann sind 15€ ok und die 50cent vergessen wir, ich schaue ihn perplex an und wollte in dem Moment ansetzen und sagen, „hey ich lass mich nicht verarschen, Ich bezahle für nichts was ich nicht gegessen habe“ da ist er aber auch schon weggelaufen und hat sich NICHT angehört was ich dazu zu sagen habe. (es ist glaube jedem klar das der sich das als Trinkgeld in die Hose gesteckt hat und man sowas natürlich nicht mit Gästen im Restaurant machen kann) Ich war soooooo geschockt von dieser Erfahrung und dass der mir sozusagen mein Geld "geklaut“, dass ich einfach nur noch rauswollte und nicht mit dem noch nh Diskussion anfangen wollte.

Danach hab ich mich dazu entschieden eine Rezension zu schreiben. Ich wünschte der junge Herr vom Anfang hätte uns bedient und ich hätte nicht einen kompletten Verlust von 15€ gemacht, weil das Essen ja auch nicht das war, was mir versprochen wurde. Im ganzen bin ich sehr enttäuscht und würde hier niemals wieder essen gehen. Ich weiß aber das dies von der Laune des alten Mannes heraus passiert ist und hoffe das der sich mal rafft und nicht andere...
