First of all I have to make it clear that the review goes to the place, not the show. The show was excellent. About the place...it is next to the U3 station so you can get there very easily. You get off at Saint Pauli station and walk for only 200 m. Unfortunately, the rows of seats are quite low, so if you do not have a first row seat you cannot sit conveniently and watch the show. Actually, my neck hurt because I had to keep my head up to see the stage... The staff is helpful and pleasant on the whole but some of them can be quite impolite. I was standing outside the stage door to meet my favourite actor and it started snowing. I went under a shed next to the door to avoid the cold and the snow and there was this "gentleman" who came from inside and asked me to go away because the shed was for staff only! I explained that there was no one else there (!) and it was snowing but he insisted that come rain or shine I had to wait in the snow... Then he took his bicycle and left! I found this rude and embarrassing. In my country, you do not ask a lady to wait in the rain or snow for absolutely no reason... This a supplementary review on the 21/8 when I went to this theatre again : another disappointment with the place as well as the people this time....I will never visit it again! Everyone there is so uptight, even some of the performers, and conceited, too. Who do thet really think they...
Read moreThe day I went to see Hamilton there were some technical difficulties, which meant the musical was performed concert-style with no choreography and no warning in advance. However, Stage Entertainment were cool enough to refund the tickets although the show was not cancelled. It might seem like basic decency to some, but I believe it's remarkable customer service, this is the kind of respect to visitors that I truly appreciate.
I also like to buy the cheapest possible tickets to the shows and concerts that I attend, and I was pleasantly surprised that my seat in the back was reasonably comfortable and the view of the stage was not blocked by any architecture. Again, it might seem like something that should be expected from any seat in any theater, and I do believe that yes, it should be a given, but also believe me when I say it is almost never the case when it comes to the cheapest seat, there will almost always be a random pillar on the side or -10cm of leg room or something.
The Hamilton itself was a joy, even concert-style. Of course I don't speak German, but hey, why would you need to know German if you know the lyrics of the original by heart, right?
Hamburg is pretty far away from the Netherlands where I live, but I am actually looking forward to going to one of Operettehaus's shows again...
Read moreMy mom and I went to see Hamilton two days ago, it was absolutely amazing! The stage looked just like the original and the translated Texts were great! But unfortunately, the seat rows are very narrow, so that every person already seated has to get up and let people through. The food and drinks were also very expensive (3€ for a tiny pretzel). Merchandise was stunning, but also too overpriced. The music in the actual musical was a bit too loud for me, sometimes understanding what was actually sung was impossible due to the volume.
I would definitely come again! Maybe without buying merchandise that next time😂 a shame hamilton stops next weekend, definitely an experience worth experiencing again!
