I’ve asked my self why I haven’t found this place before. I’ll try to give my best to describe this experience.

I wanted to invite my brother for his 30 birthday and I found that Zipang had amazing reviews and it was 10 minute walking from our place. My friends who have lived in Hamburg and around Eimsbüttel (the neighborhood) for years had not heard from it. I was skeptical and it ended up surprising me and my brother in a way that we could have never imagined.

We tried many things from the menu (it isn’t that long tho) and EVERYTHING we order was remarkable. The staff delivers an excellent service and they also take care of every single plate that we were astonished.

I would definitely recommend this place for an special celebration or a fine dinning our experience.

The only downside that I would say is that most of the plates are based on an animal protein, I don’t know if a vegetarian or vegan would find good options.

Despite it 3 Michelin recognitions I believe Zipang place is a hidden gem in Hamburg. Please keep in mind that there is another restaurant with a similar name that offers ramen. This ramen does not have ramen in its menu. However, that is not an excuse to avoid...

Very very pricey restaurants with tiny portions. We took sashimi (28 euros) and tempura (17.50). Both tiny and we had more food at home to not starve. I really mean it. The tempura had one piece of jumbo shrimp, one piece of aubergine, one piece of zucchini and one piece of paprika. Even as a started, it would be a joke. The sashimi was just a bit bigger, but still too small for one person. Quality was good but not enough for the crazy prices. Wine was good but again not good enough for 11 euro a glass (which they say it was 0.2 but no markings on the glass, and no way it was!) Can't...

Due to Covid -19 I was only able to takeaway from the restaurant, but the food is definitely as authentic as it can be. I have ordered twice from the restaurant and the staff has paid so much attention to the preparation of the food just like the authentic Japanese cuisine you can get in Japan. They even provided a hand-written/drawn note for the seasonal special box I ordered with detail instructions on how to reheat the soup. Taste wise, the food I have ordered so far were phenomenal. No words can better describe how much I love the...

A bit of an odd environment but the food was mostly enjoyable. Generally a little under seasoned for me but all of the proteins were very well cooked. The wine pairing was interesting but not the best. I would have preferred more sakes and less German wine. €7.20 for a bottle of water is rude but the whole bill wasn't too bad for the value delivered.
