Steff's wild roots — Restaurant in Hamburg

The food is this place is pretty good, for the most part. Everything certainly tastes good. It would be good enough to come here often...

The problem I have with the place and the reason I don't go there almost ever (despite living less than a block away) is that the service is absolutely terrible... sometimes, borderline offensive.

I've been here four times... first time, I went there and despite arriving before the table next to me and flagging down the waitress to see if she'd come to take my order, the table next to me ordered AND received their food before they came to take my order.

The second time I went there with my girlfriend, we sat for 30 minutes without anyone taking our order despite there only being two other tables with people at them in the restaurant... we ended up just leaving.

The third time I went there, it was relatively quick, they came in about 15 minutes to take our order.

And then the last time I went, we were waiting for 25 minutes before they came over, even though my girlfriend tried to wave them down multiple times.

Then trying to get them to let me pay is a hassle too... I usually just go up and pay at the counter.

Overall, the food is pretty good. Service is terrible and the reason I don't go there more often. I'd rather take the bus to any of the other cafes around the area than go to this place (that's very close to where I live) because of the horrible service I receive all of the time.

Fortunately, you guys have a lot of good reviews. I'm leaving this at one star because I really want to like your restaurant but your horrible service keeps me...

My favorite place in Hamburg, no questions asked. I’ve been to this café almost every single day the past year, as I live around the corner. No matter if I come alone with my laptop to work, with a bunch of friends to have brunch or with my dog for a quick coffee, I’ve always gotten the warmest welcome, best coffee, amazing food and outstanding service from the whole team. At this point, I should probably be paying rent here and not for my apartment, as I spend so much time here. From a vegetarian’s point of view, there’s a lot of variety on the menu and everything tastes AMAZING. The café is extremely dog friendly (my dog takes me here on every single walk) and the atmosphere is top notch. I too, like a few other reviewers, cannot understand the amazing reviews this place receives. Service was extremely slow - we sat for 15 mins with no one bringing us the menu, we had to get it ourselves; took more time to order, waited another 30 minutes for the food, only to be told later what we ordered was not available anymore (so 45 mins waiting with no food nor drinks). Ordered waffles with “maple syrup” (it was actually agave - completely different thing) and bacon; 3 large slices of dry, rubbery waffles with 3 tiny slices of bacon and almost no maple syrup. Was just a terribly dry and tasteless assembly of waffles with stingy toppings. The coffee was alright.
