Trattoria da Leandro — Restaurant in Hamburg

Very friendly staff and great food. I'm visiting from the US for work and don't speak much German at all. (I feel like a bad tourist!) This restaurant was recommended by my airbnb host so I decided to give it a try. I was very pleased. I arrived about 9 pm on a Tuesday and there was a good crowd. Even so I was able to get a table for one right away. The menu is in German but the staff was really helpful and the names of the dishes are in Italian (like back in the US) so I had a good sense of what was what. First I was served a bread basket with a garlic spread. It was simple but really delicious. I had been traveling all day and was exhausted so I just kept it simple with a dish of pasta (spaghetti pomodoro with mussels). It was really tasty and I was very pleased. The serving size was pretty big and I couldn't finish it. There was also a long list of pizza options, a few soups and I don't remember what else. I'll definitely try to go again...

Came at 530pm without reservations, was told by staff that place is fully booked and the avaliable table is reserved for the next hour and request we finished dinner in an hr, no problem. Ordered minestrone soup, a pizza and a so-called aglio olio. Minestrone was somehow a mixed vegetables soup not a stewed version, still somewhat tasty. Pizza and pasta came, portion was huge. However, the aglio olio was disappointing as it was a weak tomato paste base instead of garlicky olive oil, at least the shrimps were fresh & crunchy. The staff were friendly with the locals or looked like regulars, which was good. Requested for left over pizza to be packed, but one of the staff simply acknowledged but din do anything, seems they dun speak or...

I had an amazing experience at this Italian restaurant! I ordered the spaghetti bolognese and my friend had the spaghetti scampi—both were absolutely delicious. They also surprised us with some pizza bread topped with oregano and parmesan, served with their homemade aioli. The aioli was honestly one of the best I’ve ever had—so flavorful and creamy!
