This restaurant does not deserve 1 Michelin star. Here’s why: - We came for our 4 year wedding anniversary and even mentioned it while making the reservation, but no one on staff seemed to know or care. - The atmosphere is trash. We sat on chairs on the sidewalk and had random people pass by our table often, sometimes even selling things. We were harassed by strangers. There was no intimacy at all. We were exposed to street noises, smells, other guests, etc. It’s Hamburg so it started raining on me and no one cared. The tables were some nasty used, scratched, trashy wood tables. No tablecloths or any apparent effort on creating a nice atmosphere. There was no indoor seating. Zero on the decor. Literally across from us was a €10 dinner spot with no difference in vibe/atmosphere/decor. As far as we know, decor and atmosphere count for a Michelin star rating and this place does not at all meet any of these criteria. - We ordered the 8 course menu and waited up to 45 minutes between courses. We felt a bit trapped because we wanted to leave but we hadn’t paid yet etc. At the other Michelin star restaurants we eat at, we wait about 15 min between courses. Here was 300% longer. - While the food was quite tasty, a lot of the times it was unbalanced. The chanterelle dish was a bit too salty, the lobster was a bit too chewy, and the confit salmon was a bit too fatty: salmon’s already a fatty fish, so we felt like confit was a bit overkill. Despite all of this, the food was not too bad. The steak, cheese course, and dessert were amazing. It was just a bit short of Michelin star quality. - The service was pretty bad: waiters sometimes delivered someone else’s food to our table, assumed the pink drink was for the woman (it wasn’t), didn’t offer refills, took away cloths and didn’t come back with new ones, often mistook us for needing cutlery, etc. It felt a bit like student interns who didn’t know what they were doing. However, Manfred was amazing. He was the best waiter we interacted with. A fantastic man. All in all, this is Michelin guide quality at best. The star is a mistake. If we walked in expecting a Michelin guide-quality experience, we would’ve been satisfied. Instead, we expected a one-star experience and our expectations were unmet leaving us disappointed.

AMAZING! INCREDIBLE! HEAVEN! MICHELIN STAR DINING EXPERIENCE LIKE NO OTHER! I have had the pleasure of dining twice at Jellyfish and both times have blown me away. This is a dining experience not to be missed! A young team have found a way to offer a Michelin star dining experience in a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. The dress code is casual, the customers from all walks of life and the food is to die for. Every mouthful hits the tastebuds in a fantastic way. The food is exquisite! This is an adventure, it is ART on a plate and the food exceeds your expectations. We celebrated my birthday and my sister-in-laws 40th. The memories created will not be forgotten. An amazing experience and highly recommend treating yourselves to a little bit of heaven. The staff are great! - friendly and very knowledgable. The chefs come out and introduce each course so you feel a connection to the kitchen. If you want a dining experience you will never forget Jellyfish is the restaurant for you! :-)

Pricey but well worth it. This is a small restaurant, with very few tables, so reservations are necessary. The menu consists of three options, 4, 6 or 8 courses. All can be enjoyed with a wine pairing. We picked the 8-course menu with wine pairing and it was absolutely super. We found the fish dishes very creative and preferred them over the meat, but also the meat was excellent. The amuse-bouche was different and delicious, and every course stood out in its own way. The dessert was creative as well, served in a small pint glass, or seidel in German. The wine pairing was excellent with a wide range of wines. The albariño was probably our favorite but hard to judge as each wine was very well matched with the food. Our waiter was very professional and knowledgeable and did a great job also explaining why they had picked the various wines with the food. The dinner took around three hours in total, so you should not come here under time pressure. We enjoyed the dinner very much and will come back.

Would not recommend. Felt duped by service.

To preface this review I will say the food was delicious & the staff friendly (seemingly). Only after the wine left my blood stream & I thought more on the evening was I disappointed with the service. End result I would not recommend.

Short version: felt duped by the staff from the lack of clear pricing (at least for those who don’t read/speak German) & stating they did not have to-go boxes (suspicious). Also had additional small charges on the bill for unexplained reasons.

Long version: While the pricing was indeed on the one large menu the presented (in German), it was not included on our personal English menus & the servers did not go over what the course costs were. Leaving much to interpretation. Since we only got a quick look at the German menu with the pricing (I cannot read German) I thought I only saw one line of pricing for the various choices. Turns out it’s was most likely the pricing for the wine pairing... so our bill was quite a shock. Had the servers at least gone over the pricing or pointed it out all would have been fine. But working for nearly a decade in the industry myself I felt duped. My other criticism is more personal preference; there was too much time between serving the courses, allowing for my mother & I to get full rather quickly. This would not have been so bad had they had to-go boxes & im still suspicious that they didn’t.

For those still looking to go, here’s a heads up on what the pricing was for us (not the expected max €119). 4course=€99, 5course=€149, 7course=€179(maybe more). Plus additional small charges for who knows what. Water is €7,50 per person though, that was the one thing they were...

Probably the best Fish (gourmet n greenpeace-friendly) restaurant I've ever been in Germany n its by far! I was granted this fortune during our gateway in Hamburg. After unsatisfying german dinner at the chic n pricey VLET, my better half didnt give up searching for another charming venue to close the evening. There we go! Ordered the taxi from the Kempinski Atlantic could be tricky but we had luck to grab the next one and rushed our way to Sternschanze through the rainy Hamburg. I just have to adore the atmosphere this very restaurant! Just naughty (in a good way) and charming (in a naughty way lol) but also stylish! The staffs have been very caring and friendly but far from being naging or something like that. We encouraged ourselves to attemp their (secret/surprised) Four-Course-Dinner for around 60 EUR exl. drinks. Each course was food for the soul! From Tartar of Tuna, Mango & Avocado in Beetroot Soup to the Grilled Squid in Nero Sauce, Baked Tomatos and Green Asparagus til refined Chocolate Truffle with Banana & Macadamia perfectly matched each other and blended well. I envy how they pay attentions at each plate or bowl or glass or even spoons they served! Surely it isnt the typical dinner you'd treat yourself every Saturday evening or something, esp. if you arent really into fish yet, but do push your luck to give them a ring ask for a table as it isnt easy to get one last minute an its a good...
