Went there to have dinner - wasn't sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised. The decor of the place is really nice. The seating is divided into two parts, 1 with lowered seating within a sandpit which seemed traditional Ethiopian and then the normal seating with tables and chairs. Since I've never tried Ethiopian food before, the menu looked quite daunting at first glance so the menu combos seemed like a good place to begin. We ordered the combo 1 with Ethiopian beer and Maracuja beer. The Maracuja beer was especially nice. The food took forever to be served but since the also mention it in their menu, I think that was to be expected. They started it off with two sambusas each of lentil and lamb served with mango chutney (not sure what it's called though). This was followed by a gigantic plate full of curries. There were three vegetarian options - mixed vegetables, lentils, and spinach and the meat options - lamb, beef, and chicken served with a side of couscous and Injera - which is an Ethiopian staple. All of the food was absolutely delicious but it was quantitatively too much to be finished by us. Overall, it was a good experience, especially if one wants to try something other than pizza, Asian, European, and middle...
Read moreI love Ethiopian and having tried many Ethiopian restaurants in Germany, I've been wanting to try this place since long. And oh boy, was I disappointed. First off, the place is pretty rustic and has a nice decor where you can sit at regular tables and chairs and also tables with low seating which are placed on sand. The staff is very kind and speak perfect English. The place is easy to find but very difficult to find a parking around since it's very close to the town. Now coming to the food, doro wot is considered to be Ethiopia's national dish and this is the only place I've been which didn't know how to make it. I'm not sure if this is how they usually make it or something went terribly wrong that day, the stew was extremely sour. There was an overdose of tomatoes to a point where it wasn't edible. The chicken wasn't cleaned well, it was disaster to say the least. The portions are huge but it's just useless with inedible dishes. The vegetarian dishes were fine but the wait times, oh my good lord, you've to wait an eternity for your food to come by and this was on a Tuesday night. I shudder to think what the situation may be on weekends. After this bad tasting experience, I don't think...
Read moreTypical of the city, parking can be tricky, but there were places very nearby to squeeze my car into. Resto is cash only, but they have a giant sign on the door in German and English warning of such. The bank was 200m away.
Friendly staff, compact place and was somewhat crowded on Friday night, but we were able to walk in. Friendly staff, prices were normal.
Portion sizes were small, and left me wanting more, but all three dishes at my table tasted delicious and was able to make me overlook their small size. It's the first time I've had this...
