Caution: you may end up paying for things you never ordered, despite all evidence that those items were neither requested nor served.

I'm not sure if this actually IS a chain, but it has the feel of one. Disaffected staff who who are obviously employed for their standard-issue looks and ability to comply with dishonest management policy.

The prices are not only very high, they are also completely non transparent, so you may well end up paying for items you neither ordered or received, even when the staff are aware of this.

On ordering a gin and tonic (served in a separate bottle of tonic and a glass with gin and ice) I saw it was ten Euro. As the tonic was adequate for two gin and tonics, I ordered a second gin (without tonic) which was served kurtly without a word, and without tonic, as requested. However, when it came time to pay I was charged 20 euro. I asked how that could be and was told I'd ordered two gin and tonics. I pointed to the one bottle of tonic reminding her there was one tonic and two gins. She simply repeated it was 20 euro. On reminding her she had not served a second tonic, she huffed "It's still two because we never sell gin and tonic separately".

My question to her was why she had, in fact, served gin in a glass and no tonic, and made no mention of my having to pay for a second, unnecessary tonic anyway . The reply was a shrug and AI-like repetition that they are not sold separately. Attempts by all at the table to show I had ordered, and been served, only one tonic and two gins were met with more robotic repetition of the same thing.

This continued like some less funny, more German version of Fawlty Towers until the waitress finally broke programming to admit she had not served a second tonic because I had not requested one. However, she insisted I still had to pay for it, because of (insert more repititions of the non-seperable routine) and could pick it up from the bar on the way out.

An eye opening experience into a resteraunt that employs staff who are complicit in price hiding to extract as much as possible from their customers. It's not something I have experienced before and hope anyone reading this can now avoid.

There are many other good restaurants and bars (with pleasant personel) in the vicinity, so I strongly advise avoiding this one and going elsewhere - especially if you are seeking a pleasant atmosphere and...

Essen ok, Service mangelhaft, Erlebnis gedrückt. ( Fazit am Ende) Vorne weg: wir sind zu 2. Ohne Reservierung hingegangen - gab einen Platz an der Bar mit Option auf einen Tisch sobald dieser verfügbar sei, soweit alles in Ordnung. Uns wurde auch nach circa 15min ein "Lounge Tisch" Angeboten, welcher laut Aussage der Kellnerin: "zum Essen eher weniger bequem geeignet sei". (Warum man fürs Essen ungeeignete Tische aufstellt, erschließt sich mir nicht).Unsere Aussage, wir warten auf etwas anderes wurde zur Kenntnis genommen, über den ganzen Abend aber nicht wieder aufgegriffen. Schade, leere Tische waren leider des öfteren erkenntlich, aber eben nicht reserviert, heißt auch kein Anspruch darauf. Bestellung lief über das Thekenpersonal ab. Getränke und Vorspeise (Spargelcreme Suppe, geschmacklich 3,5 Sterne, circa 5,8€) kamen auch relativ zügig. Problem Hauptgang: Bestellt, Schnitzelbowl (geschmacklich ok, Verhältnis Schnitzel zu Salat definitiv ausbaufähig (2,5 Sterne, circa 22€ - für einen besseren Salatteller enttäuschend) Bestellt Schweinelende, gebracht Burrito mit Rind. Falsche Bestellung, nach kurzem hin und her und der Option: kein essen und mindestens eine halbe Stunde auf das richtige Essen warten oder den Burrito nehmen und nicht das bekommen was man bestellt hat, um zumindest gemeinsam essen zu können den Burrito genommen (Anfrage auf Rabatt weil falsches Essen konnte nicht gemacht werden, enttäuschend wenn der Fehler auf Seiten des Hauses liegt und man dem Gast/Kunde noch entgegen kommt. Im Nachgang gesehen die falsche Entscheidung den Burrito zu nehmen (Geschmacklich 2,5 Sterne, circa 19€ -- Vollpreis gezahlt).

Erwähnt werden muss, dass ein Schnaps oder Espresso aufs Haus hätten gehen können, bringt mir aber nichts mehr wenn das Essen nicht gepasst hat und daher die Stimmung tendenziell eher im Keller ist, zumal ein Schnaps oder ein Espresso für die Restaurants, ein im Verhältnis, sehr kleiner Einsatz sind (persönliche Meinung: als Gast zahlst du etwas was du nicht willst und bekommst dafür ein extra was du tendenziell auch nicht willst)

Fazit: Essen ok, Service mangelhaft, Ärger größer als die Freude am Abend. Für uns der erste als auch letzte Besuch, Fehler können passieren, wenn der Kunde dann einem entgegen kommt, sollte man diesem jedoch auch entgegen kommen.

Tipp: wenn man hingehen möchte, vorher reservieren, wobei das mittlerweile...

A Wirtshaus in Germany is like a Trattoria in Italy... Very good food in a relaxed atmosphere... Everytime I visit Karlsruhe I have an evening at Carls with friends... A great selection of craft beers and local specialities are their strong side...i was lucky this time and got the "Ochsenmaulsalat".... Just fantastic... A couple of draught beers to try the selection and I was settled for the night... Of course the table had a couple of starters and several mains which we all shared as well as the desserts before we we finished the meal with Espressi and Grappe... Great food in a great setting.... I will be there next time as well.... Again a visit and again a great dinner... All the meals were excellent, wine and beer cold, service...
