Pegelhaus — Restaurant in Koblenz

This restaurant was recommended by one of my coworkers as a great destination for good food and a perfect view of the Rhein. The view is lovely as you would expect, however the place smells of burnt cooking oil due to the insufficient ventilation (like most old restaurants in Germany).

The seating upstairs is fine (tables for 6-8) however be prepared to sit next to someone else in case the restaurant gets crowded. This was a "warning" before we were sat by our waitress.

The presentation of the food is acceptable, but not on the fancy side. We ordered a salmon and a burger. The salmon was fine, while the accompanying vegetables were not prepared well. The potatoes tasted like premade ones from the shop and not like proper gourmet food. The burger was unfortunately not edible. The meat had a foul taste, and after 2 bites, the urge to vomit was very present. The waitress asked if she could replace it with something else, but we declined as the there was no more appetite. We did not eat anything else and paid the full bill (~60€)

The upsetting of the stomach continued until the evening.

On the plus side, the staff is very friendly.

Hidden gem at the side of the river. Would never had thought that this was a restaurant if not for TripAdvisor and Google. Yay to the power of the internet. Had it not been for that, this gem would have gone undiscovered. First off, the seating area is above the kitchen and with full glass covering the place, it is bright and cozy place that allows for a stunning view of the river and the bank across. Secondly, going there before the lunch crowd was a plus as it allowed us the freedom to move around and take pictures as we liked. Drinks here were a bit more pricey as compared to the other places we've eaten at, but it is to be expected. The food portion tho looking small/little, was filling and tasty. Recommend this place for a romantic dinner or special occasion. Give this place a try if you want to just sit and admire the river in shaded comfort as...

Great spot for a sunny day, walked in noonish on a whim for a drink no reservation no problem, after a day taking in the sites in Koblenz stopped in at 7pm for a light dinner also without a reservation. No complaints and only compliments to the staff for both visits. Friendly and accommodating all the way. thank you. A+. We got really lucky without reservations in the evening so if you are planning on visiting during the busy season plan ahead, tables were never empty for long. You are on the bank of the Mosel overlooking the river so prices are what you would expect for the area, but still worth the visit. Indoors is very (veeeeery) small and personally I did not go inside so I would imagine that it is a no go without reservations on days you do not want to...
