WOK ON FIRE — Restaurant in Ludwigsburg

The food does not have a lot authenticity to Thai food so don’t expect a real Thai dish but something warm and hearty prepared Asian style. There is no table service, therefore, food, drinks, cutlery and so on has to be ordered at the counter, and it keeps the prices reasonable. Unfortunately the lady at the counter didn’t understand much German and upon asking 3 times for the flavour of the sauce 3 different not very comprehensible answers were given, none of them hit the spot of the real flavour. One mentioned ingredient of one of the dishes was missing, apologies were give by a staff member and it was handed to us. The soup was very salty and the green Thai curry had a a sweetness and thickish consistency to it I didn’t enjoy. But the spicing was perfect, slightly hot only. The fried rice didn’t appear to have been made in a pan, it was very mushy (maybe paella or risotto style). All dishes had great size portions and one portion can be enough for a dinner. I shared a soup with my husband as a starter. A suggestion from us, is to incorporate some type of Appetizer on the menu. Location

On the market place in Ludwigsburg. It is possible to sit outside or inside and watch the cooking process.

Food

You are able to either mix your own wok (combine rice with a lot of ingredients like cashew nuts, chicken, beef, seafood) and a sauce or order Thai food like Tom Kha Gai, Papaya Salad, Curry with duck. Poorly there are no desserts like Mango Sticky Rice or coconut ice cream, but the portions are big enough. Would appreciate if desserts will be set on the menu, but in summer you can combine it with an ice cream nearby ;)

Price and reservation

The price is fine you order at a desk and the food will be delivered as soon as it is ready. No possibility to do a table reservation, seat where you want to. With drink you should end by 15...

Ausführliche Review:

Service: Angekommen im inneren des Restaurants bestellten wir schnell unser Essen und bekamen eine Nummer, zu der unser Essen wirklich kurze Zeit später gebracht wurde. Das Personal wirkte freundlich und nett. Auch das Refil—System war ganz gut (Softdrink nachfüllen kostet nach den ursprünglichen 3€ die man für das Getränk gezahlt hat 1,50€). Allerdings muss man offiziell zuerst an der Kasse den kleinen Aufpreis bezahlen. Nur kann es dann passieren, dass viele Leute vor einem anstehen und ganz gemütlich ihr essen bestellen und man eigentlich mitten im Essen ist aber nun mal Durst hat. Ein unabhängiges Bezahlsystem an der Refil Station wäre eine Verbesserung. Oder man macht den Softdrink von Anfang an teurer und lässt kostenlos nachfüllen.

Essen: Geschmacklich war das Essen wirklich sehr lecker, vor allem das rote Thai Curry mit Ente. Man wird satt und bekommt echt leckeres Essen. Es verging uns nur der Appetit, nachdem meine Freundin eine mitgekochte Fliege in ihrem Essen entdeckte. Daraufhin bekam sie (ohne irgendeinen entschuldigenden Kommentar) das gleiche Essen noch einmal.

Ambiente: Der Außenbereich, der sich direkt auf dem großen Platz vor den beiden Kirchen befindet und auch an den meisten Stellen Schatten bietet, ist wirklich eindrucksvoll. Allerdings würden wir uns bei dieser Jahreszeit nicht mehr raus setzen, da wir während des Essen ungelogen von 20 Fliegen (ich habe gezählt😉) genervt wurden. Es schwirrten so viele kleine Viecher um das Essen herum, so dass man unfassbar abgelenkt wurde. Klar kann das Restaurant nichts dafür, aber es störte nunmal das Essen enorm.

Konzept: Neben all den positiven und negativen Kritikpunkten möchte ich am Ende deutlich positiv hervorheben, dass ich das Konzept von „Wok on Fire“ von allen anderen Restaurantkonzepten am besten finde. Man zahlt am Anfang, kriegt das Essen an den Platz geliefert und setzt sich dort hin, wo man möchte. Auch die Toiletten und der Innen-und Außenbereich, vor allem auch das Personal wirken modern und jung.

Fazit: Das Essen und die Preise bei „Wok on Fire“ sind wirklich fair und das Essen schmeckt sehr sehr gut. Genießen konnten wir es aufgrund den oben genannten Punkten eher weniger.
