My partner and I recently dined at this restaurant, a place known for its intriguing fixed menu concept. As vegans, we were eager to explore the culinary creations this establishment had to offer. However, our evening turned out to be a mixed bag, with some glaring issues that left us disappointed.
To start, we waited at our table for a rather frustrating 15 minutes before a waiter finally arrived to explain how the fixed menu worked. This initial lack of attention to our table set the tone for the rest of the evening.
The biggest letdown was the food itself. While some dishes looked appealing, not everything lived up to our expectations. The mushroom dish, in particular, was a low point; it was simply inedible, and we couldn't bring ourselves to finish it. Additionally, each dish took an excruciatingly long time to arrive at our table, stretching our dining experience to almost three hours, even after we raised our concerns.
Furthermore, some dishes had overpowering flavors, making them challenging to enjoy. The saving grace of our meal was the delightful combination of fresh bread and hummus, which was not only delicious but also the only reason we didn't leave the restaurant hungry.
Regrettably, our disappointment was compounded by the steep price tag of 300 euros for what was, at best, a mediocre meal. When we expressed our dissatisfaction with the food quality, we were met with the explanation that taste is subjective, and this was considered "high cuisine." However, we couldn't help but compare this experience to another high cuisine restaurants we've visited, like Joia in Milan, where we've never encountered...
Read moreMy bf and I went here for our anniversary dinner. The food was mostly really good, creative and vegetarian, although some dishes were definitely oversalted. We loved the dessert the most, it was perfectly balanced in tastes and textures, not overly sweet. From drinks I was really happy with the freshly squeezed orange juice, it was so flavorful and delicious, idk what they did to it but I still find myself thinking about it.
For the experience, it's a high dinning experience, so of course expect high prices (~25€ per course I believe). But I do feel like some transparency is missing as you don't have any info other than what the waitors tell you. So you have no idea about the price, available drinks, nothing. I can accept that the food menu is a surprise, but I would like if the prices of the different options were laid out somewhere. Like if I get bread additionally, how much is that? We're not talking about pennies here... Same with the drinks, I read that they had some special juices, but none were offered and there was no drink menu.
Lastly it took us like 3-4 hours for 5 courses. I did not expect that and it was a bit too long for us. It's all a part of the experience, but for someone experiencing it for the first time maybe a bit much, especially...
Read moreWe dined at Green Beetle when it was a vegetarian restaurant and had the coursed menu, and we had left so impressed especially as non-vegetarians. I was really excited to come back...Unfortunately, it seems now the chef, menu, and possibly ownership has changed. We dined here last night and the experience left much to be desired for me.
Service. Maybe the place was understaffed, but no offer of apertivo, coffee/tea after dinner, checking in how the food is. We had to flag a waiter down a few times to order more water or another glass of wine. So easy to upsell but a missed opportunity.
Food: The daily special barlough risotto was delicious. +1 star. I still remember the cool treasure chest of chocolate desserts when I dined here 2 years ago. They now offer fish and meat dishes. Apparently you can request a tasting menu but this information was not provided until the very end.
Overall ambiance. Maybe it was because it was a nice night and we had to sit inside, I understand everyone want to be outside but servers seemed annoyed we asked if we could sit outside. Background music was strange, i dont know. I just didnt love it anymore and wish we picked another...
