Käfer. We used to love the name and celebrate here. Now it seems they understood the demand will grow despite quality going down. Two points for decorations, 3 points down for the quality.
We came we saw - we wondered, we ate it - and we were disappointed. Look at the menu price: I mean that is the price which allows one to expect Something. Celebration!? Well ... already at booking time we were advised to select only one menu for all of us from the list of 10 menus... hmmm suspicious. We are two families with 5 adults and 5 kids, we have chosen the Schanke to celebrate the beginning of Christmass vacation and booked one of the Stuben.
Started with Käfer Punsch 10 Euro per mug covered with punsch all over as if it was served in the marked outside. The gravad lax starter was the dish I liked the most. The large portion of pumpkin soup was ordinary, just as you get at any Schanke in Bavaria without paying extra for the name. The main course was the wild, and we experienced how difficult it was to make something decent out of it, but where were the "Küchenchefs"?! Finally, the ice cream was directly from the fridge, stiff and stubborn as in kiosk round the corner. The dessert was served in the same huge plate as the main course. Finally, some "plätzchen" with plain sugar instead of suger powder on top ...
The service was slow, we did not receive as much attention as we expected.
To summarize: it seems this year reorg at Kaefer was to reduce the cost and the stuff and press the cash from the restaurant before selling it. At the expense of the guest unfortunately, really sorry to loose another location in Munich we loved.
But thanks - nicely decorated with thousands of christmass balls. We will come again to...
Read moreOur lunch experience at Käfer restaurant didn’t satisfy me and my friends.
At first , everything was amazing and on time. My friend that lives in Munich was at that place several times. It is an elegant and luxury place where you expect the same level of service.
I ordered the white truffle pasta (56€ ). When the dish was at the table I tried it and unfortunately the cook didn’t do it in a correct way. It was full of milk cream and there was not even a taste of the right Italian pasta. It was also so sweet, that sound strange but unfortunately it was like that.
When I asked the waiter to take it back , that waiter didn’t apologize and say anything.
When we asked for a bill, the price of a pasta was there and we had a small not a nice discussion with our waiter K. that a bit laughed at us by saying “ everybody like it , why don’t you” - so not in a respectful way. Definitely this kind of people that don’t have patience and respect to the guests shouldn’t work in hospitality business.
So at the end we asked for a manager and we clearly explained our position but the fun thing that when he brought a new bill we saw just a price of the truffle itself ( 28€). I have never seen this in the restaurant business and in such a qualified as we thought restaurant.
So I stayed hungry and upset after coming to...
Read moreWe recently celebrated an 80th birthday dinner at Käfer with a party of four, and the experience was truly memorable. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with a beautifully decorated table, complete with a thoughtful gift box and a personalized note — such a lovely and unexpected touch that set the tone for the evening.
The service was warm, attentive, and genuinely caring throughout the night. The seasonal menu offered a great variety, including excellent vegetarian options and every dish was presented with outstanding attention to detail. We started with finger food which were tiny canapés, would necessarily repeat these, followed by the seafood platter, which was beautifully arranged and mostly delicious — though a few items were definitely for more adventurous palates!
The steak tartar was a highlight — the meat quality was exceptional, fresh and flavorful. And whatever you do, don’t miss out on the Spaghetti Ice. Not only is it delicious, but the way it’s prepared right at the table adds a touch of showmanship that made it a fun and memorable ending to the meal.
A fantastic experience overall — Käfer made this milestone celebration feel...
