One of my worst dining experiences. We entered the restaurant at the time of our reservation and had to wait 10-15 minutes just to get the table. The space was very busy. We then proceeded to order four dishes, two beers and a dough. The drinks arrived rather fast, the dough was spilled and instead of replacing it, it was watered down to fill the glass, so it tasted pretty bad. After almost one hour of waiting we got our dishes, well, only two of them, and we were very clear while ordering. The waiter said that the grill was closed, so the one of the dishes needed to be changed. We changed the dish. After 10 minutes the waiter comes back and informs us that the kitchen is closed. We had to share the dishes already ordered. Fun thing is that even after about 20 min of this notice other people were getting their orders, even the grilled ones, so I guess the kitchen was actually open, they simply didn't bother to even try to fix the situation. Initially we were informed that the "rice dishes" we received are on the house, but when paying only the drinks were offered to make up for the mistakes, which was actually less than the other option. At that point I didn't even bother to ask explanation and just paid to get over with it. This is my first and last time visiting the restaurant in Schwabing, as in the Gasteig one I've never had...
Read moreThis is my first time with Chopan, as well as Afghan food. I'd say it's incredibly tasty. I ordered braised lamb with rice, and it came with a side dish on your selection (I chose eggplants with tomato sauces). For dessert, I had fried milk balls, topped by sweet sauce. The drink was their traditional Green tea.
In addition to Thai food, I would say Afghan food will, from now on, also be my favorite.
Besides food taste, I am also giving them 100 out of 10 for service. They are polite, smiling, and very welcomed. What makes me feel extremely impressive is that they didn't accept card payments, and I had not enough cash for the meal.
This was obviously not their fault at all. The meal costed 23.5€ in total, but I had only 15€ in cash. They said it's no problem, I could pay the next time I come. I insisted on leaving my stuff there, while I went out for an ATM, since I didn't mean not to pay. They, then, replied that I liked there food is much more important than the 8€, and insisted that I can pay next time if I wanted to. Wow.. they are just amazing.
So whoever reads this, please try their food by yourself. I recommend Chopan with no hesitation and regardless of the 8€ exemption from them. I, myself, will return to the restaurant soon, and will definitely become a...
Read moreAmazing restaurant with an even more impressive owner. I came in on a busy Saturday evening with no reservation hoping for the best; unsurprisingly, they were completely booked with no available tables. Upset, I thanked the host and complimented the amazing aroma emanating from the restaurant. He then stated that while he does not have any available tables, he can make me a dish to go. As a tourist spending a single night in Munich, I had to accept the offer.
He brought me a lamb and lentil rice dish which reminded me of my grandmother's cooking (she's Pakistani). I ate the entire dish outside on a lawn chair near the restaurant. It was fantastic. When the host came up to check in on me and ask about the dish, I asked him if I could personally thank the chef for the meal that brought back happy memories of my grandmother and that's when he told me that he was chef and co-owner of the restaurant. I thanked him again and we talked for a few minutes about the memories his cooking gave me. He stated this is the reason he cooks, to make people happy and that's how he defines success.
He's a great man who makes great meals.
Thank you, and I cannot wait to...
