tl;dr: lively, chatty atmoshpere and some hefty portions!
The place: simple decor and (sometimes too) compact tables. I confess that when we had drinks, water and the appetizer plate on the table, it got a bit tricky to eat without making a mess. Chairs were comfy! We went to dinner at around 20:00, and the place was lively and filled with chatty guests, making the energy pretty enjoyable.
The food: I ordered a passion fruit cocktail which was better than I expected (I did not expect much). We decided to go for the appetizer plate to try a bit of everything, and it could feed 3 or 4, it's quite big. We enjoyed most of it, but the papaya salad was meh. Duck salad, la lot beef and crispy wan tan were pretty good! The skewers are served with a little pot fire so you can cook them a little bit more. This freaked me out a little, and since the table was pretty small it made the sauces hard to reach for me, so I needed Fiancée's help all the time, which was not ideal. For the main course I decided to go with the hot chicken clay pot. You get some nice crunchiness from the veggies, but I had to fight a bit for the "hot" part. It comes with whole chilis, and it only gives you some heat if you break them up and spread them around. Then, it does pack a little kick. Fiancée got sweet & sour crispy chicken, which she had lots of trouble with after the big appetizer plate. There was a bit too much tamarind sauce in the dish, a little less would be ideal, as it wouldn't drown the chicken pieces too much, making them not-so-crispy. We did not have any room left for dessert, sadly.
The service: they did a good job in such a packed place. Stuff came with reasonable waiting times and we left satisfied.
Fiancée says: TOO FULL,...
Read moreThe place in itself looks nice but if your seat is facing thr kitchen , all you see are mess such as receipts and other items on the high table. When the waiter brought the wine. He spilled the whole glass of wine mostly to my friend but the rest of us got wet too. Instead of being fast in drying it up. The staff are too slow to react. We ended up drying it ourselves with the napkins on the tsble. The staff brought 2 more napkins so we could dry it more. WE not them! Then another staff started to bring food and I said if she could wait as table is still wet. So I asked for more napkins to dry it up. After bringing the food, the staff doesn’t even realize that they we dont have napkins nor fresh cutlery. So that you have to ask again. Everything was served except the spilled wine. The one who dropped the wine is cozily drinking his drink instead of making sure everything is in order or that we have everything. So of course we had to follow up on the wine still. You should train your staff with service recovery. I know it could happen but there are so much you can do still. Her coat, needs dry cleaning. That for example should have been offered. Your manager came and apologized to my friend and offered a glass from the OPENED WINE for free. Why not offer whatever she wants not from the opened wine. You should have offered her meal to be free. But no she was still charged everything including the...
Read more[edit] we did in fact visit during the week- on a Monday. We had asked if we could sit in the main space, not a high table that's in a secluded corner by the walkway otw to the toilet. It was also a table for four and we made a reservation for a normal table, so there's no reason we should be denied a normal table and only offered the high table which also seats four.
I didn't say it was crowded or noisy; only that it was full. There were empty tables which were apparently already reserved, which was why there was an empty table for four and I didn't understand why we were not allowed to sit there, and only at the secluded corner table (also for 4) that clearly looks like a backup table and is right next to their workstation with receipts and stuff. We didn't request anyone to move. Lots of assumptions were made.
We had made a reservation. But the place was so full and tightly packed that they offered us a table that was literally by the coats rack corner and outside the toilet, or the table shoulder to shoulder next to a group of four that didn't even have plastic partition- which was illegal btw. Tables were definitely too close together and we were disappointed and had to leave. There's no way anyone can sit outside a toilet or 30cm close to the next table. Again, we had a reservation but no table....
