The food was good & the Barkeeper and the Manager were super friendly. But the waiter with blond hair was insulting. When I came in, and got the menu I greeted him and said thank you. He didn’t say a word just looked at me funny. Than the barkeeper took my order in German (she was lovely). He came back 2 mins later to take my order again. he started to speak in englisch. I thought „ah he probably can’t speak German“, like many waiters in Berlin. But than 2 mins later he goes to the other table and speaks German. So when he brought the drinks, I told him we can communicate in German ( he obviously heard me talking to my friends before). Which he replied „he knows his people, he is form Mailand and when he first came to Germany, he wanted to speak Englisch bc he couldn’t speak German“. Or I don’t even know how he said it, but I asked my friends and they also meant, he was implying that I can’t speak proper German?. Well I am an interpreter. I do have a bit of an accent, but never ever someone didn’t understand me before. So I don’t have anything against jokes or trying to be funny while working, but this was just insulting for no reason. Than he was looking at us weird the whole time, to be honest I felt quite uncomfortable, but my friends didn’t want to leave, bc they already had their food. I think after behaving this way, he could have thought, I won’t give him a big tip. I just wanted to round up the bill, ofc. he pushed the „kein Trinkgeld“ Button, bc it was not enough for him. Than my friend wanted to gave him 1.20€, which is fair if your bill is about 13€. Than he said, no he doesn’t need it, bc he will have to pay for it anyway. Well, I know how this works, if he has to gave 2% of his tip to management, that means, he would have had to gave 0.30 Cent to them, and he keeps the rest. So no he doesn’t have to pay for it. It is sad bc the atmosphere was really nice, food was good. But he just doesn’t match the ambiance of the restaurant. There is a difference being funny...
Read moreI recently visited the ash and while the experience was a series of highs and lows, it was certainly an experience to recall. The food was simply wonderful—each course delivered a punch of flavor and was beautifully presented. The main course, each mouthful was heaven. The drinks, though, were the icing on the cake. The cocktail list was imaginative and nicely crafted with each drink being beautifully balanced. The pink dragon, in particular, was refreshing and unique.
Aside from that, the service was abysmal. The waiters seemed not to know where the food went , taking forever to take our orders. There was a lack of warmth and efficiency that detracted from the experience. While the food and drinks were excellent, the service was an afterthought, which was sad given the quality of the restaurant otherwise.
In summary, the ash excels in its culinary offerings and drink selection, but the service needs significant improvement. With a more attentive and polished staff, this place could easily become a top-tier dining destination. I’d still recommend it for the food and drinks alone, I will definitely be back… maybe that was just a bad day for service.
Part 2 ( second visit )
This time I came in the afternoon for lunch alone. The food and drinks once again were amazing as expected but the waiter I had was not exceptional at all. She kept using words like “ what “ when she couldn’t hear me and never smiled nor gave any kind regards. If it was a matter of her not hearing me she could’ve easily used “ sorry “ or any other words but to me it seemed as if I was bothering her. I do not know how many times I can emphasize this but service of a restaurant can surely take its experience from a 8/10 to a...
Read moreAmerican theme, format and ambiance kinda invites to travel back in time to the 20s & 30s era of New York supper clubs, although I still think it could be even more details to it. Menu ranges from juicy burger classics to special steak cuts, surf & turf some fish and pasta. An array of vegan and vegetarian dishes also available. We were a big group, so waited quite a while till food finally arrived at the table, although my grilled salmon coupled with spinach and mash potatoes was absolutely worth the wait and the portion was “very American-like” enormous. Waiters were very friendly, but it is 100% bit understaffed for a Friday night. We needed to search for ours and remind about several drinks for couple of times as I think there were to many tables in the loop. Not a dealbreaker, but definitely need more people on weekends. Good pick for a weekend dinner with friends if you don’t...
