La Maison du Chocolat - Potsdam — Restaurant in Potsdam

Can not even rate the food/cakes since we were denied any serving. Apperently, this place only serves seated customers. No take away options. A half-friendly "can i help you?" paired with an upset facial expression that we even dared to enter instead of taking an outside table and wait to be served greeted us. Our response that we would just like to buy some cake for take away and where to do that was answered with a "well you can try it at the counter but it will take a while most likely" (again don't expect this be spoken in a friendly manner)

Inside at the counter 4 staff members but not a single one even dared to greet us, yet alone even once looked at us. After some time of standing there without any response/service we decided to buy a cake somewhere else. Maybe a nice restaurant uf you plan to eat your cake there. But don't try to buy some cake for later at home.

This happened during the tulip festival in the area. Either train the staff more to handle huge amounts of customers or better not open during a festival if the staff...

The food was incredible, we had two slices of delicious cake. The place is really nice but unfortunately the tip culture is extreme. The total was 18.50 and since it is only cash (which this alone is crazy for such a touristic place) we gave the waitress 20 euros and without even asking she was going to keep the change. And only for this rude behavior we did ask for the change and they didn’t even say goodbye later and spoke in german to each other clearly saying something about us. The tip for the service really wasn’t needed since nobody asked us anything and we had to sit ourselves. Being Italian, we know Europe isn’t like the USA, so this tip culture is nonsense unless the service is something...

Do not skip the hot chocolate, that's the main reason you are here. How annoying is that it costs 7.90€ and you only get a tiny cup, it kills the fun. Whe we wanted to pay suddenly we are told that they only take cash.. they dont like cards or is there something else?

It is nice to sit outside when the weather is inviting. Unfortunately in 2024, they have ash trays on every table to encourage smoking and people who wish to enjoy a nice atmosphere with fresh air can only hope to not have a smoker sitting next to them.
