Restaurant & Biergarten Alter Hammer — Restaurant in Speyer

We were here on Sunday noon for our monthly Stammtisch, this time 12 persons, with a reservation. The room was very nice and comfortable with a long table and windows at the one end with a view to the Rhein and the outside dining area. The service was excellent precise and friendly. The food was definitely prepared in advance and kept warm by the kitchen, until ordered and served. This deducted from the taste and texture of the meat, in my case Pork Lion with croquettes and crème mushroom sauce. The meat was somewhat dry and the sauce was too salty for my taste, but acceptable. We all got our food roughly at the same time, except the salad was served first, again to me. The weather was lousy with frequent rain showers, so outdoor seating was not an option for us. Many people did dine outside, since reservations were required for inside dining which we had made several days in advance. We decided to stay for coffee, due to the weather conditions and the nearby cafe being full. The coffee was very good, unfortunately no cakes were offered at the restaurant. An incredible German restaurant with delicious food.

The staff is nice and welcome, they speak a little bit of English which is a must for such places.

The chicken steak I tried was incredibly yummy! However, the only downside is that they do not serve desserts. There is no a single dessert which is truly disappointing.

The prices are a little bit above average for this specific area. However, they also have the small portions in their menu for the specific dishes which is very convenient - thank you for that!

Also, FYI - they have a lot of tables inside. The atmosphere inside reminds of home, the original old German house.

Nothing special, the seats and tables on the terrace are placed on small stones, moving all the time at every little touch, the food was good, served fast. I had an unpleasant experience to hear that I cannot pay by credit card and I was adviced to go few km at the ATM . Before leaving towards ATM, I was requested by an" intresting" man, to leave a warrany document or telephone( for 19 euro invoice )really not customer oriented.I explained that I stay at the hotel 50m, and may write down every information about me they can also write the car plate nr, I will not runaway from Germany...
