Café Galao — Restaurant in Stuttgart

One of my favourite places in Stuttgart to hang out after a weekday. Wednesdays and Saturdays have live music but it gets way too crowded, so unless you are there early and you actually go there for the music, it will be better to come another day. The music picks on those days tend to be interesting. During the days without live music it is a nice bar, with good food and drinks, good background music, friendly staff, decent prices, and a few places to sit outside. The atmosphere is relaxed but with energy. A few other things, there is normally quite a bit of cigar smoke inside and after 11pm they ask everyone outside to enter the bar if they want to...

Worst experience ever. After handing over the menu, the service person was ignoring us. The Café was not full but the staff was busy smoking cigarettes. After some time we could get the attention of the waiter and place our order. The hot chocolate was just disgusting. The chocolate powder was old and not stirred well. The glas was full of clumps. We asked for a spoon but did not get one. I wanted to use the bathroom but this was not possible since it was very dirty. During the short stay we felt that the some staff members were not sober yet. "Wir wechseln gleich von den Mittags- auf die Abendkarte" erklärt mir der freundliche und entspannte Service. Was auch bedeutet, dass ich die nächste Viertelstunde nichts zu essen bestellen kann. Und so trinke ich erstmal ein "Fürstirgendwas" (so richtig habe ich es nicht verstanden) an dem kleinen, klebrigen Tisch vor der Tür.

"Wohl fühlen tut sich hier nur wer keine Angst vor anderen hat und wer bereit ist seinen Platz mit anderen zu teilen." Diesen Kernsatz lese ich zwar erst später auf der informativen Website, aber diese Haltung erlebt jede*r Gast im Galão. Die Stimmung ist unangestrengt, das Publikum bunt gemischt, von alternativ bis hip.

Das Wetter treibt mich von den Palettenmöbeln an der Tübinger Straße nahe des Marienplatzes, in das Kellerlokal. Es gibt eine kleine Bühne und ein reichhaltiges Liveprogramm. Die Karte bietet eine bunte Mischung nationaler und internationaler Küche, Hauptgerichte liegen zwischen 10,50 und 14,50 Euro. "Panierter Ziegenkäse mit Pestospaghetti und Salat" klingt nach einer interessanten Kombination. Das Pesto schmeckt sehr nach Convenience, der frische Blattsalat hat das süße Dressing, dass meine Oma vor 30 Jahren auch immer gemacht hat. Der Teller macht satt und weckt schöne Erinnerungen.

Und an diesem Tag ist das mehr als genug, um mich im Galão wohlzufühlen.
