Quintessence:
This is definitely not an authentic Thai restaurant. It's rather a Chinese restaurant. The employees were speaking in Cantonese with each other. They are not Thai. The food was unfortunately underseasoned and the vegetables were overcooked. All dishes lacked Thai spices and/or herbs like lime leaves, galanga or lemongrass. You can't call this an "authentic Thai restaurant" if they don't use typical Thai ingredients. The service was friendly.
In detail:
I went to this restaurant with a friend on a weekday in the evening. The restaurant was not crowded. We ordered the TOMJAMGUNG (soup), TOMKHAGUNG (soup) and THODMAN PLA (fish cake) as entrees and for our main course we ordered the PLA DUG PAD PHET (trout) and the PLAMUK PAD KIMAU (stir-fried squid). All dishes lacked flavour. Especially the soups lacked Thai herbs/spices. I didn't taste any galanga nor lime leaves nor lemongrass. Moreover the coconut milk in the TOMKHAGUNG was clotted. The soup didn't have that creamy consistency. Both soups are described as "hot and sour", but they were not spicy at all and only very mildly sour. The fish cake usually tastes really aromatic, because there should be lime leaves inside, but there weren't. The consistency was good though. As Chinese fish cake I'd say it was good, but it wasn't a Thai fish cake.
The PLA DUG PAD PHET was good in its consistency. The fish was cooked well and it wasn't dry, but again it lacked flavour. I didn't really taste any ginger. They also could have added more fish sauce. The PLAMUK PAD KIMAU is just a stir-fried squid dish that you can get in any Asian (regardless if it's Vietnamese, Chinese etc. cuisine) restaurant. The vegetables were overcooked. They were too soft. This dish also lacked flavour. Both dishes were declared as being mildly spicy with one chili symbol, but they were not spicy at all. The rice was cooked with too much water. It was too soft.
Altogether I have to say I was really underwhelmed and disappointed by the food. It's absolutely not authentic Thai food. Authentic Thai food is very flavourful. Even if they declared this food as Chinese food it would have been too stale. Overall their menu also has too many items on it. They should try to focus on less dishes and cook these well. I'm not saying only Thai people can cook Thai food, but if you want to cook Thai food at least make sure you know the essential ingredients and make sure you cook it authentically.
The bathrooms were clean and the service was friendly, but when my friend paid using a debit card the waitress just left the payment terminal at our table and just went away minding her business. She came back later on, but we would have preferred she stayed for the time of payment so we could have left the...
Read moreUnfortunately I have to give 1 star for the food, we went in based on googles exceptional review without checking if they had vegetarian food. Usually when you go to a Thai restaurant in Toronto, they can easily cater to plant based diets but this one lacked suitable choice.
All of the Thai curries had fish sauce so we ended up getting yellow curry which had Chinese/Singaporean flavor. As for noodles, we ordered rice noodles which were basically mixed with some chewy fried stale tofu pieces and bean sprouts in soy sauce.
Only saving grace were the servers, they were very polite and friendly. They were extremely busy, looked like a popular spot but not worth trying if you are vegan...
Read moreVery nice place, definitely worth a visit. The setting and atmosphere are in an Asian theme, with an aquarium included. The food is tasty, almost like in Thailand, with a wide selection. Portions are quite big though, but you can ask for small sizes also, even if not mentioned in the menu, if you want to have multiple dishes. The staff is very fast and well organized. We were a table of 8 and requested separate bills, and they arrived correctly split without emus having to mention...
